Are these Toyos any good? Will the 195s go on the standard front wheels?

They are track tyres. Come with very few water channels, they are soft compound and have 5mm tread new (less than a standard tyre)
Not really recommended for winter road use (although the set I had were fine in the wet, but that was summer, so warmer)

Thorney from the vx site reckons there on par with Yok 048's

A man who's opinion I'd trust (with the power he's running!)
Oh, and if it is track tyres you're after, yeah - the 195s fit the front no problem - have just taken a set off mine.

Sorry shug, I should have said I meant on the S2. Will they still go on? Not that I can afford a spare set of track tyres at the moment but still interested

Ah, S2

- 195s not the most comfortable fit. Ali ran 196 T1-S on his for a bit. They fit, but only just and you *may* have clearance issues...

A048 is a great dry weather track tyre, the R888 is a great dry weather track tyre.....
You'll have driven them both, yeah?

Personally no.
From reading collective reviews the Yoko's have always come on top.
Have you tried both or just going with Thorneys opinion?

Tried both - although not owned A048s, just driven a car with them on, so maybe not such a direct comparison. Liked them both, but it wasn't a back-to-back, so wouldn't make quantatative comparisons.
The 888 is a great tyre and I couldn't detect any area where the 48 surprised me having got used to the 888. If you could get a discount to make it attractively cheaper than the 048, it would be daft not to take it.
To clarify, I had the R888 195/55 fronts, which are technically too big, but fitted and I adjusted the ride height to remove most of the changes. You now get the fronts in the correct 195/50 profile.
Only person I've read that's disparaging about 888s is Scuffers, who's experience I trust, but has been known to shove his head up his own arse when he grabs a hold of an idea....
I wasn't being cheeky with you G, just querying the SELOC style (posting something that adds nothing) Okay? So let's not start handbagging!

Don't worry, I don't have my handbag today but please remember, I have a S2 and therefore know everything.....
