Aston will be British this week

Post by campbell » Mon Mar 12, 2007 1:57 pm

[Metro, C Scotland, 12 March 2007]

Aston Martin will revert to British hands this week in a deal worth £450m.

James Bond's favourite car company has been 100% owned by US motor giant Ford since 1994 but a consortium led by Welsh entrepreneur Dave Richards is to buy the firm. Mr Richards, 54, runs the motorsport and automotive engineering group Prodrive and is planning to enter his own Grand Prix team next year. Aston Martin, based in Warwickshire, was started in 1914 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford [rest schnipped]

"Aston F1" for 2008, maybe? Or will it be Prodrive F1...

Davey has prior form with BAR / Honda does he not, and also with Benetton, was it?

Could be exciting...I reckon he knows his stuff.

Oh, and welcome back home, Aston :-) I can't afford to order an AMV8 just now but I am working on it honest, guv.

DR is quoted as sayin no AM in F1.

wonder what this could mean for lotus engineering: AFAIK AM/Ford used them to engineer the extruded alloy chassis and handling of the current range.

;)

I think Lotus did the Vanquish chassis but none of the rest so doubt it'll make any difference to them.

Lotus developed the crash structure for the Vanquish - Ian Callum told me himself :D

Er, not quite...the Beeb article is speculative...Metro has the facts ;-)

Anyhoo, that's just me teasing. Whatever the case, looks like a genuine Brit will be at the helm and that can only be sound news for the local industry.

Now...Prodrive to buy Lotus? That *would* be entertaining ;-) However I think Veedub will be just fine for now...at least we can look forward to that creamy Skoda engine in future Elises.
