340R questions

Yesterday a few of us were admiring Cammy's 340R at Knockhill and many questions came out in the discussion here are a few answers.

It was designed to have a power to weight ratio of 340 PS per tonne and only 340 were to be built hence the name.

It is based on Elise components including the chassis.

I was trying to chase it for a few laps, syncronised sideways out the hairpin. :lol:

Not quite.
It was meant to have a power to weight ratio of 340bhp/tonne but when they didn't manage that they decided to build 340 instead ;)

Thanks Simon the bit I read said they did manage the 340bhp/tonne but it ended up being a single seater and very far from road legal so they had to go with the 340 to be built.

Funnily enough I was musing over this the other day.

By my calculations, if you can get your 340R engine to push out 204 bhp, you do have a kosher 340 horses per one of your metric tonnes. Assuming it does weigh 600kg in the first place...

I would have thought 205 bhp from a race-oriented K was feasible. Ok so probably need rebuilt after each trackday, but there you go ;-)

i dont think any of them weigh 600kg either tho. Well, not standard anyway. The yellow, stripped, trackday spec one i looked at last year had a lot of bits stripped off, and it wasnt even that light.

Check with Scotty and Paul, but the weight ended up around 680kg.

If only they could have achieved the 599 kgs, with around a 240hp engine, it would have been something else, and still one of the best lookers around.

Would love to see Paul or Scotty put a S/C Honda in, and blast most cars off the track.

I love 340Rs. Wish I had enough spare cash to have one.

Ultimately, an Elise will always be faster round a track but 340Rs look awesome and I would love to have one with a S/C Honda. :drive

I must admit, I would give a 340R serious consideration onlooks and individuality alone. However I need an Elise which can be used in all weathers, and wet day car the 340R is not :shock:

Thrilled that we have at least 3 SE members running them though...that's nearly 1% of the production tally !!

i've loved them since cammy took me out in his at KH.
everytime i go up now i try and blag a pax from him...cheers cammy!! :lol:

A recent trip to Falkland Performance confirmed my car was putting out 198bhp, which with the boost tube is what it should be, so was pretty pleased with the outcome.
I'm sure the car weighs somewhere in the region of 670kg's and thats with the racing battery, carbon fibre replacement front spoiler and engine cover. :D

I was at Marks yesterday (putting Nitrons on) and my car was 690kg with 3/4 full tank or 800 with me in it :shock: Fat Bar Steward

Well Tut my car will have a Honda S/C in the not to distant future. I am talking to Dan and the car will be getting dropped off on the way up from Donnie. Not sure if to go the S/C straight away. Might just put the Honda in then S/C it for FF6 or Tut towers :D

Must be very tempting for you to go the whole hog, funds allowing.

You will not see much of an increase in performance from the Honda engine, as your VHPD is probably pushing out the same as Craigs was, 199, and Cammys 198, and I only just had the edge on him. However an extra 80hp from the S/C will make a big difference.

We also need someone to give Craig a run for his money, as as far as I know, he has the only one in Scotland.

In fact that is exactly what I said in my other thread before I knew that you were converting.
