My friend from Singapore had been running his Primera GT for about two years servicing it every six months! He never laboured it and I was envious of his purchase from day one. He had to head home recently for the forseeable future and needed the car right up until he left. Very conveniently I was looking for a second car as autumn arrived. I took it off his hands for a really nice price.

Negligible running costs - almost! - and a greater appreciation and care for the Elise thrown in for free!!!! Elise is wrapped up warm just now and shielded from the salt.

Its got a sporty sound at the mo due to the dissolved back box...will deal with that soon...honest! The practicality is astounding - I need radar to find the shopping bags in that boot!

I have a VW Polo , its so boring I cannot think of anything to write . Two tyres in 20k miles , an oil change or two and it passes MOT's without fuss . Yawn !
It does have quite a good stereo in it though.

Just drove a rental Hyundai Getz for two hrs on winding Greek mountain roads and cannot believe how good these run of the mill cars are getting. We have an old Fiat Panda which is laughable but great in its own right. But this Hyundai had excellent handling and balance and steering feel. Good build and comfort added to the experience. :

It shows that the general public, although not car nuts like us, are increasingly appreciating cars that "feel right" on the road.

Will this continuous improvement of normal cars ever end? I hope not!!

I usually drive the Peugeot 406 Estate. It is a diesel, does 50-something mpg, starts first time, goes all the time, never needs anything other than a regular little service and passes each MOT without much fuss. It is even comfortable, has decent stereo/cd and I can even squeeze the Great Dane and German Shepherd in an emergency. It replaced the Volvo 850 T5-R which did all of the above apart from the 50-something mpg bit

I replaced the head unit only as the speakers to my ears are quite good. A cheap lead for my MP3 works a treat . Its quite long so you have to resist the temptation to hang yourself on a long journey .

Goes (like fcuk), stops, does everything I ask of it - loads of space for my mad springer spaniel, kids shyte, furniture etc, BOSE stereo, TV, plus it has a detatchable towbar for when I'm towing the 7

Just don't mention the MPG

Series 1 Discovery V8 LPG. Bought it for £1k on e-bay with a blown head gasket. Sorted that, mainly by making sure that the head bolts were more than finger tight.

Full leather, 6 disc changer, 7 seats, tows anything, good fun off road.

Quite fast in a straight line, doesnâ€™t like corners, better MPG (cost equivalent) than a k-series S1.

Ford Puma 1.7 (well it's Nicola's, the Exige is my everyday runaround), 5 years old, has cost best part of fcuk all to run and 100% reliable. Pretty good fun too.

Someone is coming to buy it tomorrow.

Both the Scooby an the Elise are daily drivers. The Scooby is great in all conditions (mine's only 265bhp though Cal), comfy and quick but I'm finding myself looking at diesels with increasingly envious eyes. All that fuel is becoming an indulgence I'm not sure I can afford.

Beat me to it, I bought a 1.7 Puma a couple of months back and have been very happy with it. Reasonable fun to drive, sprightly enough and economical too, usually get around 38-40mpg
