iPod questions

Post by David Bryce » Mon Dec 18, 2006 12:41 pm

Two of my mates gave me a 2gb Nano yesterday for Xmas (i'm away on Xmas day to Thailand for a month hence why they gave me it early so I can fill it up with music!)

I have just downloaded iTunes and was wondering what method of importing and converting I should use, AAC/MP3/other?

any other hints and tips?

also, should I just wait until I arrive in Dubai/Hong Kong to buy a power adaptor for travelling and a wee set of speakers?

cheers

Dave

try and keep your music is MP3. AAC is only really used by Apple, so if you change to a better MP3 player at some point, it can cause a problem.

If you are travelling with it - get yourself some Shure E2C's.

£40 if any Se'ers want them :thumbsup

Use MP3 so that you aren't b*ggered if / when you ever want to stream music or move to another brand of player.

Speakers, docks etc you could probably get before you go away .

Try http://www.everythingipod.com for ideas

EDIT : Doh - Andy beat me to it

Poundland do protective skins for the Nano (they fit the latest Nano fine) and they are identical to ones costing more than 10 times that. You can attach a neck cord/lanyard to them as well. The included cord is a load of crap though.

Well recommended - my missus hoovered up my nano's headphone cable then pulled away quickly swinging the nano into the wooden bedpost causing it to fracture
Sent to Apple - but was swiftly sent back saying its fecked!

Get a cover!!!!!!

Is there anything that can be used to "free" ACC (M4P) file and let them be played as normal MP3's?

If they aren't protected AAC's (ie from the apple store) Itunes will convert them for you.

if they are you'd have to burn them to audio cd and then re-rip them as MP3's. Don't know what that would do to the quality tho

Cal
paypal dumpled them a while ago after pressure? Visa (I think) was the last to fall. Hwo has a Diners card???

I think the US were actually making the closure of allofmp3 a condition of Russia's entry into the WTO!!! Just shows what power those record companies have - at most the site is only costingthe industry a few million (I heard 50 US) but they have actually managed to get the US ambassadorial (my spelling is lousy but that doesn't look right) team to bring it up at trade negotiatinos!

Try BeSweet. http://dspguru.doom9.net/

I think Winamp will also play them, it has a disk writer output that will write a plain .wav file, which you could then turn into an MP3. I think BeSweet will do this in one step but I don't have a .aac file to test with.
