I know I am going to get slatted here as a Lucky Barsteward... but...

Back in 1993(ish) The Daily Mail were running a Peugeot 205 competition in associaion with one of the car dealers where they gave 1 car away per day to a lucky winner for a week. Monday-Thursday prize was a base model car. Friday special prize was the 205 1.9 litre GTI. All you had to do was put your Name and Contact details on a card or back of an envelope to be in with a chance. I had an envelope and a stamp so entered and won the Friday special prize.

There was no cash alternative and the car had to be registered in my name but since I was a student and prefered dosh, the Dealer agreed to keep the car and sold it as a pre registered car and I did pretty well out of it. I am sure the new car was 14k and I got 12.5k. Paid the Bar tab for 3rd year!

My Dad has been entering competitions on the 'net sinmce he retired amongst other things he has won:-
Bose headphones; BSB tickets (with hospitality); flights to NYC; 2 weeks in Kenya with Kuoni (5* my wife went as Dad couldn't and it was ace); concert tickets; AltonTowers trip... There's lots more, it's become a hobby for him. not quite a car yet but give him time.

Back in the early 90s my mate bought a 306 GTi from a local dealer that had been won in a competition in the Mail but she couldn't afford the insurance....

(OK for the to be a proper linked anecdote it should have been a 205 but it was close!)
