Planning on replacing the existing garage door with an electric roller door. Any recommendations on companies who could supply and fit?

Following. Interested to hear how you get on. I am east of you and have struggled to find anyone reliable to come out and fix my faulty electric up-and-over garage door. A hopeless company based in EL that sent guys that wouldn't know what was the sharp end of a screwdriver, two companies not turning up when arranged and another with a huge call-out fee just to come and quote for any work. Been bust for a couple of years now. Good luck - if you get someone good be sure to come back and tell us.

Daly Garage Doors fitted my sectional doors and electric openers about 5 years ago, been really happy with them, not had any issues. They are based in East Kilbride but says they cover the whole of Scotland so might be worth a look if you are struggling to find someone.

Did mine too in 2016, and I have since recommended them to others who were happy. Mine was a weird size and special colour too and it was good price.

Watching this with interest as my lekky roller door is f*cked so the Cerb is stuck inside (can open a bit with manual assistance) but Mrs B's Mini has been relegated to the street

I have used Garage Door Services Fife in the past- based in Dunfermline or thereabouts.

Really friendly and helpful guys- previous owner of my house had used them to reduce the size of the central pillar and fit two new (larger) doors.

They only had one car though so he only put an electric opener on one door.

When I moved in I got them back to put an electric opener on the other door.

Had them out a couple of times since for niggles on the old opener (which is now about 12 years old) and they've come out and made adjustments for no charge, even though the door had been fitted and working well for 7 or 8 years by that point.

Highly recommended.

Hmm. Could be handy. Looking at an upgrade to our powered door, once Covid-19 recedes and the cash flow cranks back up a bit.

We've got a powered Hormann sectional door that was installed ~12 years ago and still looks & works great.

I think the builder used the Garage Door Company in Edinburgh to install.

I’ve got sectional just now. Going for roller next time - more space efficient

I had mine replaced a few years ago. This was due to an unfortunate incident when I hooked the old one on the tow bar of a Discovery, drove forward and pulled it off the wall.

The new one works ok but here are two aspects which get my goat. These might help you in selecting a product and / or fitter.

The receiver for the remote signal is a separate box and it's not powered from the mains supply that goes to the motor. I've asked the fitter why this is and he tells me a story about security standards and the motor / receiver having to be independent. I don't get it though. Worse still the remote receiver box needs batteries … and not AAs or AAAs … really expensive batteries that aren't any good for anything else. Bonkers.

Second thing - where the remote signal receiver is on mine is fine when I'm inside … but doesn't receive very well when I'm outside. Sounds obvious but I assumed the fitter would have thought about stuff like this - sadly not. So, when it's pishing rain, I have to go right up close to the roller door, wind the window down and point the doofer from outside the car. This results in a wet right arm. Sounds trivial but it's really irritating when you've paid £££s to have this thing installed.
