Hi Folks anyone on here an apple phone expert?

Miniblonde sold her iPhone SE but the buyer returned it saying not as described as Laura forgot to say the screen had been repaired with a non OEM screen. Fair enough we accepted the return.

When the phone came back the Touch ID sensor ring was silver, it should have been gold to match the phone. (The buyer mentioned this as one of the problems) I checked the pictures used for the eBay ad and the ring looks gold although it’s not 100% clear cut. I popped into an apple authorised repairer and they confirmed the ring should match phone colour, and that the ring would not be changed if the screen was replaced on the iPhone SE. He said that only apple can change Touch ID sensors so it’s likely the phone internals have been swapped as if just Touch ID then Touch ID would not work. Just tested it and it’s fine.

I’ve checked all the serial numbers, model nos capacity and IMEI and they match ok but I’m not certain the phone hasn’t been tampered with. Anyone with any deep technical skills in this area?

What benefit would they get? Lot of hassle to go through to swap internals for same/similar.

Yeah, this is puzzling me, can’t think why. Before I checked I just assumed that I was gonna boot the phone and get an 8gb version instead of the 64 or a ruined battery or malfunctioning Touch ID. All appeared fine, but I’ve been using the phone and it’s doing weird stuff, the dialog boxes that pop up asking you if you want to approve notifications, location services etc pop up then after a second disappear without interaction, it wouldn’t take an iOS update to 11.4 just kept shutting down at preparing for update the I couldn’t turn back on unless hard reset. iOS 11.4 is on it now but it’s still doing odd stuff, like always warm. I’m now wondering if it’s had malware on it to harvest iCloud accounts as these are quite valuable to sell on dark web. Passwords all changed of course.

You usually only get the approval notifications if you either put your sim in a different phone or a different sim in your phone.
In other words iCloud will recognise the number or the phone that were originally together. I get it when I am down in Africa as I change to a local sim for internet/data on PAYG. When I arrive and change sims I have to approve the change by 2 devise authorisation and again when I go home and change back.
It certainly sounds like it has been tampered with but why go to all that hassle is beyond me.

I’d be very cautious about installing banking apps. Been looking into the TSB fraud lately where they sent a pin to the consumer and then had them read it back and ultimately had their accounts emptied.

Punted to cash converters for 100 schmakeroonies, problem solved.

Definitely something off with it tho.
