Router questions

I have CCTV installed at the new Boag Towers and I wish to access it remotely.
I cannot get a static IP address from my current BB provider (BT).

I have tried a dynamic DNS bodge by registering a host name with NO-IP

I have applied a port forward rule from the BT Smart Hub

I have installed the iPOLIS app on the mobile devices

It all works well.....until my IP address changes

NO -IP does not seem to keep up with IP address changes

This necessitates a what's my IP search.....and a manual update of the target address on NO-IP

Any (sensible) suggestions ?

:cheers

BT refuse to provide a static IP .....and Gail is a Director of BT Scotland!!

You should be able to setup the router to automatically update NO-IP when the IP changes. I've not got a Smart Hub but googling suggests you just stick your NO-IP account details into the Advanced Settings-> Broadband-> Dynamic DNS page and it should just work...
If the router cant do it and you have a PC always on you could install https://www.noip.com/download?page=win and that'd do it for you.

Hi Neil

So far so good..........the dynamic DNS setting seems to have worked.
I have also downloaded the software from NO-IP and have an old laptop on standby....if it requires an "always on solution"

Thanks

Good to hear. Hopefully the router will cope with it as it's a PITA having to leave a PC always on.
