Keeping and eye on Google for Elise 2020 news since kind Mr Gales announced it was a thing back in November 2016. Ok its probably way too early to get excited about it but the latest concepts images are really not getting me excited. Ok its a good looking car but its not an Elise IMO .... even dare I say it looks heavy at a glance.

This however I did like the earlier concept that was kicking about last year:

I feel a poll coming on.

Happy May day chaps.

The red one in your first link is just the never-to-happen concept elise with a few bits photoshopped, including a duct from the current elise cup? No chance it'll look like that.

The silver example has potential.

Imagine it'll be 2018 or even 19 before we get a hint of what it will truly look like. And even then it'll be embargoed until launch. Ignore "artists impressions" therefore.

Just focus on specs and weights, which probably WILL be shared in advance.

If it's over 900kg and £40k, I'm out.

If it's 800kg and £30k basic, I'll entertain it :-)

The S1 was 750kg and £20k. Roughly. Happy to allow for inflation but not middle age spread or lazy engineering...

Hopefully they work on improving the quality and finish of their product.

So, we (SE, collectively) want it about £6-7k cheaper than an S1 (adjusted for inflation). We want better quality and finish, but also lighter than the current Elise. We'd also quite like Lotus to make a profit and be sustainable so we can get parts and support and stuff.

Chop chop, JMG, you've got some work to do!

And we accuse the concept artist of living in a fantasy world? :)

It'll definitely be over 900kgs and £40k I reckon. Sorry campbell.

I'd agree, but I suspect closer to £50-£55K basic and 1000kg. Have you seen the price of a new BMW M4 now - the E46 M3 CS was £52k in 2005 fast forward to 2017 and the M4 CS is £90k!

The price of all cars are continuing to rise.

Skewed perspectives, thanks to the performance gains in mass produced stuff.

Golf R, 0-60 in 4.2 secs, 8ms gearshifts, haldex idiot-proof traction, 5 seats, and a boot. Yours for £30k. That's incredible and is a great example of economy of scale at work. Shared platforms, common engines with different sized turbos (thanks emissions regs :thumbsup), millions of DSG units made...

Without those kinds of cost savings, and with ever increasing performance benchmarks to hit, there's no wonder an Evora costs £75k and a 3-eleven costs £90k.

Looking at the second picture which had fun poked at the mockup of the front at the time for being a mini V6 is now exactly how the new Elise Sprint looks.

The first render is lovely though.

Ok. Maybe I'll overlook the weight gain. And can always pick one up 2nd hand eh ;-)

Not forgetting they need to leave enough excess on the base model to release a new and improved model every 6 months.

I love the top one but it does move away from the Elise ethos somewhat ( and is it not just the canned Bahar Elise anyway?)
2nd one is unmistakably an Elise but I'm not sure it's different enough from the current model to make owners rush out and buy one?
I also hope it's here before 2020 as 3 years is a long time for the existing one to survive with Limited Edition specials :?
