So it seems my elise may be written off after the wife reversing into the front of it last year so in a search for what it may be worth I stuck my reg number into we buy any car.......

£770 is their valuation hahahaha :damnfunny :damnfunny :damnfunny :damnfunny The damn plate is worth more than that

Dreading to think what the insurance company might come back with, has to be over £10k surely? S2 135 Sport, miles are high at 130k but it's never wanted for anything and anything that has gone wrong Craig has seen to in a very professional fashion. all C serviced etc last year, new radiator, alternator, clutch, gear box, gaz gold pro fully refreshed, exhaust changed for a quieter one, I'm sure there was loads more I'd need to check my invoices but I've spent thousands on her last year...

I'll be devastated if they don't fix it  If they do consider it a total loss I will want the cost to replace it with another, that's not unreasonable is it?

Cheapest S2 on Autotrader is a 111s at £14k

Pistonheads is £12k

E-bay is £11,500

This has me worried I'll be shoved out of Lotus ownership by the insurance company :(

Can't you just accept the pay out from them and buy it back?

Speak to Craig - he'll guide you. Start collecting ads for cars in similar condition, age, mileage. You will need to fight the insurance company to get their valuation to come up to where it should be - it's their job to their shareholders to pay out as little as they can get away with, after all. Just be diligent, don't let anything slide because it's "too much hassle" and don't get f*cked by them.

And yeah - once the valuation is right, as Ed says, just get the money and buy back the car from them and fix it with the difference.

Last time it was hit Avia was the company dealing with my claim, they don't offer the car back so I'm hoping this company allows buy backs... Properly starting to worry about this now as you'll all know I'm pretty attached to my wee car, we've been through a lot together

out of curiosity I put my reg in when I bought the car last Aug, £12000, which was more than I paid for it. Just done it again for a 53 Sports Tourer, £3000.

Jesus that's low! I put my exige in last year out of curiosity (bad regretted it every harassing email since) and they offered £14k which I didn't think was too bad for a trade deal!

I'd try and by it back if I was well attached to it.... everything within reason is repairable.

I bought my 53 plate cat d 111s for less than 10 grand... hold out as something would come along if you decide on another one.

Hold out. If you can make sure the car is parked somewhere that you have control over it, like your house, it's not uncommon for the insurer to lift it from the recovery garage and scrap it without your knowledge.

That is what happened with N1 as Ian was driving it and the police called a breakdown company in Ellon instead of John Duthie.

Insurance Company had it taken down South before I could get there and take it to John's. It was not a CAT B as the chassis was not damaged but as they assessed it at that I could not buy it back and it went to auction.

I never let them get near N3 until the Assessor came to the house, so as it was a CAT C I was able to buy it back.

I originally bought the car after it had just had the Honda conversion done for £9,500, fitted a S/C at £1,800 from the USA, and ended up with £20,000 from the Insurance payout and selling on the car.

I think the car is secure as the guy who owns the garage it's at wouldn't let anyone near it without my say so, if they make a decent offer what sort of buy back price should I expect to pay?

Hang on. How badly damaged, Mark? Surely will only become a write-off if settled by an insurer? In which case abort the claim, tidy it up and just run it, no?

I may be missing something ...

I was originally offered below 10 for mine and after fighting I got over 13 so it's worth a fight. They ignore asking prices, only sale prices, so ask people like Craig or Will Black if they have sold similar specs recently. If you want to keep it, as for a buy back price. I bought mine back and it left me enough cash to do all the repairs.
