SORN Question

I decided to SORN the motorbike and this is something that I have not done before so looking for some advice.

Motorbike insurance renewal is due in March, if you SORN a vehicle what happens come insurance renewal? Do you have to declare to the insurance company that its SORN and will it likely affect my premium. Want to have the flexibility to tax it later on and return to the road with minimal hassle (i.e. no phone call to the insurance company etc and admin fee).

My renewal last year was only £200 ish so I am not interested in saving money on the insurance premium.

I used to sorn the bike every winter and made no difference to the insurance. I don't think it matters to the insurance other than if you have an accident and it's not taxed.

You can always ask the insurance before you do it. "If I were to sorn the vehicle (haven't done it yet) would the premiums change or do you need to know if I do?"

This is the first winter I've even approximated laying up - but I still keep them taxed and insured for the odd crisp winters day.

That said, the MV hasn't been out at all, due to the inch thick layer of salt. Probably will SORN it next winter. Had the Kawasaki over in Edinburgh on Monday - great ride over, challenging on the return...
