Alloy wheel protectors

Post by DJ » Mon Jan 23, 2017 8:04 pm

Anyone ever used these? Alloygators, rimblades etc. I always thought they were the choice of the ned in bright colours along with extra GTI badges from Halfords, but for the 2nd time in 4 months the Mrs has scraped an alloy and taken a big gouge out the tyre sidewall.
I'm used to her kerbing the alloys but that's the 2nd time a chunk of tyre sidewall has came off for this car. First time tyres weren't even half worn but bought a new pair. Given just 2k miles since last time I'm just going to buy a single this time as tyre is like new otherwise, but with the tyres at £150 each, I find myself googling options to stop it happening again. Are they effective - would want black of course - or just a fad/fashion thing?

I have a set of gloss black alloygators that I prepped to fit on the Evora then changed my mind. Make me an offer If you want them( if I can find them in the garage) - everything was present apart from the box, I glued the clips on so the nailbreaking works done already

After 17 years of marriage I'm used to her kerbing the alloys!. Used to get worked up about it and refurb them each time, now I don't bother. But must be something about this wheel design or tyre type that means the side wall keeps getting caught and torn. Can't keep forking out £150 for a tyre or £300 a pair every few months.

Going to watch the videos on their websites to see if would help as guess my issue is more about the tyre sidewall than the alloy, but yes, interested if I think it would help. By a set do you mean a pair or all 4? Probably just looking to do fronts. Shame they weren't pink neon..

michelin do tyres with pretty serious rim protectors, but i guess thats just a future solution.

My mum who uses kerbs more than lewis hamilton, now drives my old audi a4. I bought a nice straight set of standard 17" wheels for her car and stored the rs4 design wheels that were fitted, what a great decision that was!

Couple of lads in the MX5 Scotland club use the alloygators. I had been considering but but resisted so far. Green on black wheels on a green car look good.
