My cousin is looking at an Elise which is in Arnold sharks in Paisley/Renfrew.
Any hints or tips of what to look out for or better still does anyone know the car?

Will need to remove the sharks sticker from the rear window to see anything out of it!
New yota cars are solid, with that kind of mileage I can't see there being any issues at all. Check the bodywork for any cracks/spidering, it's a MMC car might be worth a call to them?

1.6 isn't very powerful but is possibly closer to the original S1 than any of the later more powerful versions. As above at that mileage there shouldn't be any real issues. Obviously worth trying MMC and Hayden in Carlisle for similar cars.

The ad has gone.....
I bought a 2006 Elise S2 in 2013 with 22k miles. Main item I missed was the aircon pipes through the sill. These were leaking and the dealer had obviously re-gassed it just to get the car out the door. Dealer didn't want to know and 3rd party warranty didn't cover pipework. Other than that I've had the rusty springs & leaky dampers replaced and the resistor pack replaced under the 3rd party warranty! I would also check the bodywork very carefully, any repairs only tend to show up after the car has been sat outside in the sunshine for a few weeks and the filler/paint has cured properly.
If this is a 1.6 then it's obviously newer and the Lotus fixes for the aircon & resistor pack might already be included. Otherwise the Toyota engine & gearbox seems pretty bombproof.
