Post by Lazydonkey » Sat Nov 19, 2016 10:13 am

Always have a deal available but rarely post on here as I usually just get moans and complaints.

However thus one is quite good so here goes nothing.....

- Offer includes one 1TB Sky Q box, MultiScreen can be added for £12/month
- Sky Q kit is loaned at no cost but must be returned at end of subscription
- Install cost is £15

What is Sky Q?
- Pause on TV and continue playing on a tablet
- Watch Sky TV including recordings, on every screen in the home
- Store up to 500 hours of SD TV
- Record three shows at one time, whilst watching a fourth

New TV (Sky+ HD) Customers: Half Price Box Sets Bundle:

That is a great deal Martin, I pay £118 for similar which includes free BB, a Mini box, line rental, and 24/7 calls.

I presume new customers will still have to take out line rental on top of the deal?

I have an 80 year old neighbor who watched the golf etc, Sky's now billing here £50/m and she really can't justify that.

whats the best aproach to take to trim this back do you think?

Do you know when her contract ends Simon, you can always bargain it down at that point? If mid way and you are prepared to speak for her the sob story normally works. I can afford Sky but it does not mean that I do not try and get a discount.

I could use the terminal illness now but would not do that, but the looks as if "I will have to sell the house as at 76 the Building Society is not going to renew my Mortgage so I will have to give up Sky" has worked mid term and she knocked 15% off.

Sky Q, has a lot of development to do. I have had it for 6 months now, and it is alway locking up, losing signal, etc, and the extra mini box, consistently hangs, and is generally unreliable. I have had 3 seperate engineers visit to try to sort the issues, including a specialist IT guy. That said when it does work, it is very good.
For Sky to release a premium priced product like this, without sorting out all the issues is simply unacceptable.
With the quality of streaming devices like Amazons firestick etc, there are much better value for money options on the go, and nowadays with catchup TV, the ability to record is not as important as it used to be.
No wonder they are now offering deals to get people on board!!

I gave up on sky as the costs just escalated, and i was only using it as a DVR.

Currently using plex with an external tuner, not as user friendly yet, (getting better) but it's free and accessible from anywhere.

I was just thinking that Martin. Absolutely stupendous offer for anyone thinking of getting Sky.

I've just renewed my Virgin subscription for a year when we moved house otherwise I'd be tempted by this.
Cheers for posting.

Hay, don't get me wrong, i was a Sky customer for 20+ years...

the issue for me was simply these:

1) cost escalation
2) I don't watch any sports except F1
3) I don't watch Movies on Sky
4) the convenience of Sky+ is not worth the cost
5) lack of flexibility (unless you pay even more for Sky Q)

What I will say is that as a user experience, Sky still is the best platform, but others are finally gaining on them, Sky really need to make the transition to almost 100% VOD.

For customers like my neighbour who need something simple/reliable/etc it's ideal, however the costs are getting unaffordable, she is paying for Sky Sports for the Golf, but in doing so, had to get the football etc that costs the big bucks, Sky need to look at splitting up the sports subscriptions so you only subscribe to what your interests are, £50/month for a pensioner on a fixed (and reducing in real terms) income is simply too much.

Hope that this does not offend you?

Exactly what I thought.

You post a very enticing offer for the group to benefit from, and it gets turned into a grievance platform.

I'd not bother from now on.

Ha Donkey, I am not usually a moaner, and didn't mean to steal your thunder. I have been and still am a loyal customer of Sky since it first started, (probably before a lot of you were born) . They do however need to up the anti, and get what could be a fantastic new system sorted out!

It is also a bit difficult to accept seeing such good offers being put up, when being an early adopter, I am paying full whack, and getting S***** service!

If you want to get someone from Customer Services who may actually give a toss, to give me a call then I will happily speak to them!

Glad it's not only me that is suffering with SKY Q. The biggest frustration is the mini Q boxes constantly loosing their connection. Other issues include boxes freezing, tv guide dissapearing, my Q remote has just failed etc etc

Lots of Sky Q problems, but as I have seen them all now and was on from day one I can normally sort them out myself. Power on and off normally sorts it or a Router reset, but just received a new touch remote as mine gave up.

However my Customer Support is brilliant, but that is because as I am disabled I have a dedicated phone number that is answered immediately by the Q support tech team. I know most of them now and normally chat away even after the problem has been solved, but have had two engineer visits, one to replace the Mini box and one for a software update that was not done automatically.

No way that I would be without Sky now, especially Q, and Verian uses it even more than I do for all her favourite Series that I call rubbish, but keeps her happy.

Martin has been great for many years now in setting up the special deals for all the family and we have all benefited, but he is not responsible for tech problems or Customer Support.
