Selling a private number plate

Good evening,
Do any of the good car people on Scottish Elises have advice on the best place to sell a private number plate ?
I have investigated with the usual big agencies but didn't like what they were proposing, they seem to have a weird way of doing business. Ebay reaches a wide audience but their search method is very clunky to the extent I don't think any buyers use it. Nothing seems to sell. Pistonheads seems similarly clunky and underused.
Not sure where to turn to next. I'm actually thinking there is a good business opportunity for someone here if they can come up with a 'Rightmove' for private plates.
Any advice much appreciated.
Regards,
Jeremy

I bought an F355 plate on eBay a few years ago but that was a one off.
Every now and again I will have a nosey on PH in the parts and plates section.
Must admit I thought the plate dealer sites were just all fantasy prices

Its not unusual to see the same plate across multiple agencies, with different prices, and surprisingly if you check some of the plates are still with DVLA so they are just speculating that some poor sod won't check and they get a healthy mark up. E-bay seems to be the most realistically priced, but you're right, not much seems to sell.
The best place to sell probably depends on what the plate is and if it has a target audience, I suspect it down to luck as much as anything as there isn't a single 'go to place' for 2nd hand plates

I've only ever sold 1 plate (one we bought as a punt, GR11PPY) and sold it via Pistonheads.

That pretty much hits the nail on the head. I just wish there was !
Looks like I'm going to have to go down the ebay and pistonhead route, many thanks for the suggestions.

Jeremy

eBay is good for buyers, not for sellers though.
I bought a 5-digit dateless plate for £1000 on eBay, v similar ones in DVLA were £3000!

I am contemplating selling N1 TUT Jeremy so went on line to get a valuation. Most want you to fill in your lifelong details and ten charge you £10 to give you one.
However this is a good bet, e-mail only, if you go with their estimate they will do everything including paperwork, no charges to you as they are taken from the seller. They say that they use realistic prices, mine was £1,650, paid £800 many years ago.
