New Arai GP6s helmet doesnt fit - where to buy from?
New Arai GP6s helmet doesnt fit - where to buy from?
Hi all, last week I ordered a nice new trackday compliant helmet from MSAR (very helpful). Got my Arai GP6s hat today and its causing rub / pain on my forehead. Even though its sized correctly I think im going to have to send it back. Try something else. Does anyone know anywhere in Scotland who do sell and have in stock track day complaint helmets? from BELL or Arai or other brands?
Originally I went to Shirlaws last week and tried loads of Arai helments which were super comfy but motorbike specific.
Advice appriciated..

Have you spoken to Steve Turner on here '5turn3r'? He's very helpful and carries some stock if you need to try.
Interestingly I had the same issue you're reporting with the Bell when Steve let me try one. I've had an Arai motorcycle helmet for years which was always very comfortable. In the end I had some rather large garage bills to pay which put a new helmet on the back burner. But when in the market I'd be contacting Steve again.

I asked Steve a similar question before and he responded with the following last year:Ferg wrote:Have you spoken to Steve Turner on here '5turn3r'? He's very helpful and carries some stock if you need to try.

"With regards to the helmet, there's a wide range of options depending on your budget and requirements. For example, one of our most popular helmets is the Bell MAG-1, which is approved for motorsport should you decide to participate in hillclimbs or sprints (a popular way of people moving from track-days to competition). This is open face and has tinted a peak visor, along with HANS post inserts should you decide this is something you would want for additional protection (you can buy the actual HANS posts at a later date, these are £40). We sell this helmet at £199 inc' VAT. I will have some of these with me tomorrow if you want to try them on.
Next up from the Bell is the Turn-One Jet RS helmet, which has a similar construction and features to the MAG-1, but comes with HANS posts fitted. It retails at £245 inc' VAT.
If you don't need motorsport compliance, things start to get cheaper...
The OMP Star helmet is open-face and also has a peak visor. It's aimed at the track-day market and it's price reflects the fact that it's built down to a cost, with an ABS shell as opposed to a stronger fibreglass shell on a motorsport helmet. It retails at £48 inc' VAT. Also in the track-day bracket is the Sparco Club J1, which has a similar construction to the OMP, but this retails at £69 inc' VAT."
I was keen to actually buy my own helmet and so sent an e-mail to ask if I could drop past his shop but he never got back to me. I am in no great hurry for it as I have a helmet and don't do too many trackdays so it's probably better to call him.
He has been very helpful as you can see above and easy to deal with for other purchases (and for a few others here)

Another thumbs up for Steve Turner.
I may be wrong, but I think for an open top car, you need a full face helmet.

Take a bit of fine emery paper, pull back the lining where the helmet is causing pain and give the polystyrene a rub, just a tiny bit at a time.
Check the fit, continue until a proper fit.
This only works if your lid is just a touch on the tight side, be very careful and take your time so as not to remove too much, you can't put it back.
That said, how long have you worn it? I usually buy my bike lids fairly tight, takes a good few weeks of constant use for them to settle in. If you've not given it a decent amount of time I'd wear it around the house for a few days.
