Scottish Elises

Evening.

Met a chap at work a few weeks back when I spotted an Elise in the car park .... initiated a search to find the owner around every local office to explain how awesome it looked ... really nice guy (clearly I am crazy ) . I obviously pointed him in the direction of ScottishElises. Not sure if he has arrived here yet but good to spread the word.

Anyway, he mentioned today the Lotus Badge(s) on his alloys have disappeared either by falling off or by design (i.e some kid with a badge festish).

Owner explained he purchased new badge(s) direct from Lotus at £x.

Are badges "falling off" alloys a common issue or are we talking 100% malicious here ?

Are you aware of any recommended part that are as good as ones direct from the factory for a better price ?

In my experience yes, but may be dependent on the originality of the badges. I've tried a few options and a smear of silicon on the clips when fitting will keep them in place, but still allow removal from the inside (with wheel off) if you ever require to remove.

73,000 miles and all 4 caps still attached.

I have never lost any caps. I did replace them as mine had got a bit tatty, They are not cheap! Managed to get some from a previous owner who had spares IIRC.

In some cases the heat soak from the wheels expands then shrinks the plastic, enabling them to fall out.

Heard it's a bigger prob for Evora...

Lost loads due to heat, plastic fails but also the wheels expand (more than the plastic) when hot. Much more of a problem on track but can happen with road use only.
The newer design of badges are much better but mine also in with high temp silicon.

The caps on my subaru inexplicably keep melting and falling out, can't think why....
