Data deals.

Post by tut » Fri May 27, 2016 11:20 am

3 are doing truly unlimited Data SIMS for £20/month, though you can only use 30GB for hotspot/tethering. I am also getting 4G part of the time which gives me around 35mb, or 6mb on 3G.
My Satellite costs £45/month for 25GB, and I get a steady 20mb. However due to my usage, online 17 hours/day Data is more important than speed.

I am contemplating cancelling the Satellite though it will cost me around £150, and going for the SIM. Good idea or am I missing something?

I am also on 3. Feel at home is great for the states etc. they used to have a 12gb cap on tethering so glad they have increased the limit.

4g not great where we live but generally get decent signal. Hopefully can keep my contract and get better signal if the merger goes ahead.

I am not liking being on three. Their signal is not good around the Glasgow area. They often apparently turn off the local mast to my office (near the center of Glasgow). Other's in my building have similar issues with them. You phone up to complain, a few days go by and the signal returns, only to disappear a few months later, and repeat. Will be looking for another provider - even it f it costs more it will be worth it to have a phone signal again.

You're a jammy bugger getting 4g out there Tut. I'm 3 miles from Insch and barely get cell reception, let alone 3G or 4G. Unlimited tooway for £60 though, usually 16-18mbps

I'm with 3, have been for years and when renewing my contract a year and a half ago they slapped a tethering limit of 2GB on all tarrifs, so i'm stuck with that for now, pay £55 a month  I'm unlimited everywhere else, my previous contract was unlimited everything and was cheaper... Paying through the nose for an iPhone that generally is bollox with an utterly sh*t battery life that shots itself down randomly if you're under 40% charge, thinking Samsung may be the answer next time but I've been on iOS for years and may struggle with change, I'm one of them lol....

This was just after launch so carried a premium..... and it's not a great phone, cuts calls regularly and dies showing 40% battery which is very annoying as you can't rely on it when out and about without a charger...

LOL. Flagship telephone but it cannot maintain a call or reliably report its battery status. Moto 4G 4th Generation comes out next month - will be pennies to buy off contract and will be as much telephone as just about anyone needs - I'll be replacing my first gen 4G simply because it's too cheap not to :-) I like Apple's laptops having taken the plunge a couple of years back - but their telephones don't seem to be of the same quality.

Cheers,
Robin

Glad I'm not the only one who despises their 6, people look at me as if I have 2 heads when I said it wasn't all that. Much preferred my 5 that It replaced. It's too big, too expensive for what it is and as far as I can see apart form a larger screen and a better camera it isn't any "better" it doesn't really have a USP or any redeeming features, other than "it's an iPhone". Unfortunately I don't care about these things enough anymore to bother which is a shame, I just want something that ticks the boxes. My little brother has just picked up a oneplus X it was £180odd and looks like a cracking bit of kit! For what it does at less than 1/3rd of what my iPhone cost too.

Tut, I ran a 3 mobile hotspot until, recently, found the fancy mifi box to be a bit tempremental the basic one seemed to maintain a connection better but you could only connect a few devices to it. Both are sitting in a drawer collecting dust and there is another month to run on the contract, I could fire one upto you to try if you wanted? Would rather see it go to use than to waste. Only thing is they are older style contacts/sims/boxes so only support upto 3G.

You can not compare my use of a mobile with anyone elses. I probably use about 20 mins/month in calls because I am at home nearly all the time.

However I am on the internet from 0800 to 2400, and then I discovered WhatsApp, the low point in my life, so the iPhone 6S Plus gives me a good large display, and a keyboard large enough for a two finger typist to hit the correct keys. Would not be without it now, the cost is not a consideration, but I would not have it if I was carrying it around and using it all day, it is too large. It works great as a SatNav and Speed Cam unit in the Elise, and with the Data allowance I can use 30GB as a Hotspot for my Macbook at between 8 and 35mb as opposed to my Sky 0.6mb BB speed.
