disagree...

watching the Ant replays and then the team info on engine modes, LH had to make a call left or right, Nico was not paying attention and saw him too late to close the door.

From Merc, Nico was some 180Hp down in that engine mode, hence why LH was some 35Kmh faster at that point, his choice was left (the racing line that Nico was heading for) or right.

once he committed to that, no matter what he could have done, contact was inevitable with Nico going right.

Basically, Nico took his eye's off the ball and was farting about with his steering wheel cause he set it wrong off the start line.

Regardless, one of them should have given way and Hamilton was too aggressive at that stage probably because he had lost the lead. As soon as they collided they would have realised this, it was obvious from Hamilton's body language in the car.

How many times would they have watched this happen before both to others and themselves? A racer is always going to go for an opening, but there are times when to do so will put them in such close proximity that unless both cars hold their line they are going to collide. They will both be disgusted with themselves, I believe Hamilton put his hands up though the Sky team were divided as to who was to blame, but I go back to he should not have taken the chance on the third corner, and Rosberg should have concentrated on what was going on around him and he then would have not cut him off and given him nowhere to go.

The good result was at least they took each other out and one did not get away with it, so we had a much better race, and it was great to see Verstappen win in his first race in the car, especially as he did almost half the race on the same set of tyres.

You may find this Bizzar Simon, but I agree, I would put the blame on Rosberg. Lewis had the run on him, he stayed to the right, to block, then moved to the right
.again, 2 moves, and didn't leave the agreed car width for him....

Given that Rosberg was so slow at that point, it's kind of hard to see what Hamilton could have done - I guess these guys always drive assuming the guy in front is going to go flat out, and when they don't, collisions happen (e.g. Kvyat and Vettel). They are so far away from "ooh, I better lift 'cos I seem to be catching the guy in front" that by the time they realise that is actually what they should have done, it's too late (nobody would ever overtake if they drove like that, either).

Also Hamilton has to drive flat out and grab whatever chance he can to pass Rosberg. Once they are settled into 1-2 formation, Rosberg gets first choice of pitstop and passing at Barcelona in almost identical cars is hard (Raikkonen could not pass Verstappen, despite having a fairly comfortable speed advantage). So it's first lap or never (regardless of whether it turns out to be true, it is the mind set the racers must have). Last year Hamilton might have banked on Rosberg crumbling under pressure, but so far this year Rosberg has held his nerve.

IMHO, racing incident, nothing to see here, move on :-)

Cheers,
Robin

Agree. Which is why I was surprised by niki Laudas comments on his interview: (blaming Lewis) perhaps it was soon after the crash and he didn't have time to reflect.

End result was that they took each other out in the first few seconds, ended their race, lost Mercedes a probable 45 points, and broke their teams instructions, you can race each other, but do not take each other out.

As a result of this it could be back to team orders as it was in 2014.

Agree with you there Simon.

Will be interesting to see how the two of them get on going forward.

Just watched Hamilton's and Rosberg's interviews, you are half right Tut. Rosberg is a dickhead!

Rosenberg is a dickhead - was in the wrong mode and took his eye off the ball while correcting it. A racing incident as far as the Stewards go but isn't going to help relationships within the team :?
