The issue with no more paper licenses......

Post by Lazydonkey » Fri Mar 25, 2016 10:08 am

Most of you will know paper licenses went the way of the dodo some time ago.

Don't worry - there's a free number people can call to check you have a license.

In order to use this service the customer first of all has to go onto a website and generate a check digit.

Mrs Donkey needs to hire a car today (long story) so she goes onto the site and puts in the following data;

License Number
Postcode
National Insurance number

Computer says no.

So we try again.

Computer still says "you're entering it wrong, call this number"

Ah but THAT number don't work bank holidays. And the number that is open can't give out that information as it's just a checking service.

So she's now without a drivable car until Tue unless the hire company go against their own rules.......

So i'd advise that you all check your details on this site
https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence

....before you NEED it.

Notice that it's been designed by a total retard so you need to put a space in your postcode or it won't work. Note also it won't tell you this. Or format it for you.
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

System does seem somewhat clunky.

Opposite for me, would not accept a space.

Load of bollocks anyway, says I have a 6 month Disqualification and 6 points.

I hire a car in the UK every week at Heathrow. Paper copy of licence (I never got a photo one) and my passport. Never have a problem. Have printed the code of the first 2 times, Hire comapny said they don't need it / use it.
All good.
Need to make sure you use caps for the licence code where necessary and for NI number. Again, never had a problem logging in and getting the code.

Think I pulled all this info for car hire in USA last summer. Was never asked for any of it.
