Oops! Have a laugh at my expense....

Post by Alistair » Mon Mar 21, 2016 11:37 pm

S2k's wheels were in real need of a good clean up after a few weeks of neglect, so reluctantly bought some Wonder Wheels to get through the brake dust and grime (normally don't like using it as pretty harsh on the wheels I think)

Spent a good 45 minutes before dinner scrubbing away, and commented to Mrs F how difficult they were being compared to normal.

Returned after dinner and was still having no success. Thought I'd check the instructions in case they'd changed for some reason.....

Imagine my surprise when advised to vacuum thoroughly before application.....

I'd only gone and bought Wonder Wheels "Leather Cleaner and Feed"!

Over an hour I'd been at it - what a Tw@t

Anyone done anything as daft? We won't tell anyone - honest!

Not car related but once when we returned from a foreign holiday I liberally applied after sun to my face before going out on the motorbike for a blast. After a few miles I was thinking that I must have been more burned than I thought as my face was stinging in the wind chill. When I got home my face was bright red and my eyes were bloodshot  Turns out I had liberally applied the other halfs shampoo and conditioner instead of moisturising sun cream.

Can't help think of Only Fools and Horses episode where Del and Rodney are wooing the same woman - Del Boy turns up the timer on the sunbed and Rodney ends up like a lobster!

Brilliant - this thread could grow arms and legs I think - hope so anyway as my arms are goosed after all that scrubbing!

I have a cringer too.........

I collected my car from the bodyshop after it being there for 5 weeks, I jumped in and drove away immediately thinking how the hell is the temp at 111.3 and as I drove it rose but the car was cold, un-run when I arrived, as it got up to 115 I was thinking shiiiiit, just then 73 degrees pops up on the screen.... I was looking at the mileage odometer

Does polishing the dining room table with Mr Muscle oven cleaner rather than Mr Sheen furniture polish count? If it doesn't sound too bad to you, give it a go. Preferably on an old table you are ready to throw out rather than your main one that matches all the other dining room furniture. :(

Hmmm a confessions thread..... I might have a few to share...

First car related one that comes to mind was when I came up with a plan to transport two autotest cars using one transit van pick up and one car trailer. To get the first car on the van, it needed to be driven from the trailer to van, so I used the trailer ramps from the front of the trailer to the back of the van. I neglected to notice that the back of the van did not have the same edge to hold the ramps in place. As I accelerated up the ramps, the front wheel drive car pulled one of the ramps off the van - leaving one front wheel of the car dangling in the air, and the car gently rocking diagonally.... I gently backed down to the trailer.

In fact, another trailer related one....

Had once parked the autotest car on its trailer, but not tied it down.... subsequently went to move the trailer... and forgot the car was not tied down. Thankfully the back end of the autotest car was light enough for me to be able to lift it back onto the trailer

Haha I like this thread.

Not myself, but my sister had parked in another flats space in Aberdeen (not for the first time, but was only space left), and when she went down the next day the bonnet was covered in tomato sauce and grated cabbage, which was baking in the sun.
To remove this, she started scrubbing with a normal sponge which did not seem to be doing the trick, so she went inside and grabbed some pot scourers with the steel wool through them.. She didn't notice until shed scrubbed the whole bonnet and then rinsed it.

I was getting ready for a trial with the landrover

The trialer was low on fuel (rover v8) so was the tow car another landrover (300tdi)

Pu the trialer on the trailer and tow it to the petrol station

Proceed to fill the petrol landrover up to the brim with diesel

And fill the diesel landrover up to the brim with petrol

Made it home to swap over the contents of the fuel tanks

Incredible how little diesel you need to make huge clouds of smoke from a rover V8
Landrover 90 = Muddy shed spec
Fiat panda = Couldn't care less spec
Landrover ?? = Muddy shrek spec
Unimog 404S = Very slow silly offroader spec

My old man had to tow a broken down Renault 5 back to his workshop so I volunteered to steer and brake. Had to be towed uphill on a narrow street with cars parked all the way then U-turn at the top to come back down to the main road. On the way down I started to feather the brakes and nothing happened. Panic took hold and I stamped on the pedal, nothing. By this time I was right up behind the old man and gaining speed so I swerved to the left and squeezed between him and the parked cars, overtaking him and snapping the rope. Common sense kicked in and I grabbed the handbrake before shooting across the main road. Turns out I'd been stamping on the clutch pedal!!!!!, stupid foreign cars with offset pedals, not my fault obviously. Last time my old man towed me :)

Where to start............set my face on fire once that was right up there ,forgot to put nearside front wheel nuts back on my spitfire so when my dad took it for a mot it made for a exciting ride ,petrol / diesel done that ,went to fix a window on a third floor flat landing and managed to break the one on the second floor to name but a few.
