.....is about to get a new Scottish resident.

Clare just phoned, Google have contacted her and offered her the position. She starts off in the London Office next month, then California in October when work permits have been sorted out. Obviously sad to see her move so far away, but proud with what she has accomplished.

I just finished "Work Rules" by their HR guy (don't judge me). Not an easy company to get a job with, they pretty much have a rule only to employ people who are better than them.

"Googled" is also a good read.

Going to cost a lot of money to rent and computing will be a pain, but she has negotiated a good deal as regards salary and allowances, she will be on bonuses and receive shares, and knowing Clare she would be happy with just the free massages, hairdressing, gourmet food. Also Jamie has started diving again after all his training courses and has just started a contact in Qater so they will be on two salaries. She can have no idea of what is ahead until she gets stuck into it, but as opposed to her last job with Shell, I think she will be able to respect those that she is working with as well as those above her, can not believe that she would have to deal with some of the ineptness with Google that she had to live with in Dubai.

I was fortunate to come across that book Pete, "Work Rules" by Laszlo Bock, after reading this Guardian interview with him before she went over for the interviews. It lays out exactly what he is looking for in applications and interviews, although I think she would have taken that approach anyway. Like most young women she needs her sleep, but she had a 24 hour journey from Dubai on Thursday, managed three hours sleep, and started the first of five interviews on Friday morning. Her final one was with Laszlo over a two hour lunch but by then she was actually enjoying it as it seemed to be going well and she was dealing with professionals. She then flew back to Dubai on Saturday to start work again. He receives two million applications very year and the interviewer said that every one goes through him, though that would be impossible, but he has next to the final say. After she passed with him it went onto Larry Page's desk for approval. "Never tick off Larry Page. Even though this is now a city-sized operation, Page still enjoys the final say on every newcomer."

Those barsteward at google can suck my balls I am really chuffed for her, Tut, and Verian now has an excuse to go on that 6 week round the world trip she was talking about. You can look after the chickens, horses, dogs and we'll have some lads weekends while she's away

Not at all - just people worrying about google indexing everything - I thought that would give them something to index and hopefully somebody somewhere will get a giggle
