Had a surprise call from an old friend Eilean from many years ago, whose husband died from cancer six years ago, she had just received Verian's Xmas letter and realised that we now lived a few miles apart.
Paul was a BA pilot and after he died she took up with his best friend Andy, a fellow pilot and they are now building a new house together. They came over for lunch today, he is a quietish bloke so asked was he interested in cars. Three hours later I had the answer. They are both 69 and have nine bikes between them. He has rebuilt a '56 Lotus 11 from the chassis upwards and has three fully rebuilt Coventry Climax engines for it, 1100, 1200, 1400. Just checked on PH and they start at £90K. He also has a rebuilt Singer Le Mans, probably others but we ran out of time.
Waiting for an e-mail for the full story, but gathered that it was two Harleys, two BMW's a 1200 and a '54 500, Yamaha R1, Goldwing, '57 Norton Dominator 99, 2004 Triumph 2.3 litre Rocket which I have never heard of, KTM 450.
Showed them N3 and felt like an also ran.
