Incredibly the whole of the A93 road has washed away.

Puts my bit of wall that was wAshed away into perspective! I just looked at the street view of the road before and it's amazing how much has been washed away.

That's certainly going to change the line through that section :-) Bummer for those that need the road! I wonder if it'll get fixed as quickly as the FRB? ...

Hope no one was on it, with the river at that speed and strapped into an open top Elise, the outlook would not be good.

Tut, pretty sure the A93 has been closed since 30/12 so doubt there was anyone on it, thankfully. I wouldn't fancy my chances getting out of any car in that water - though I don't think it's all that deep, if the car were upside down I think it would be pretty hard to unstrap/open the doors with freezing water pushing on the door!

Glad that I was not out leading an Elise run that day, as that would have been a new one that I could have been held responsible for. :D

I was totally shocked by this and the Cambus o'May bridge pictures. I have no recollection of anything like this in my time in the Highlands/Aberdeen-shire.

I wondered if they could do a military-style repair for cars/emergency service vehicles, through the adjacent field, using hexagonal matting or something similar - would take the landowner to be amenable. There could be temporary speed limit (say 10mph) for the 100 or so metres ?

Hope the businesses in Ballater don't suffer.

Crathie bridge is now closed apparently, which means no access to the south deeside road. For anyone travelling to/from Braemar the only road is the A93 over Glenshee. Going to be a long winter for anyone staying in Braemar. They have said it will take 2 weeks to repair once the water level drops but given the rain we are getting there is no telling when that might be.

Your right Phil, I can't remember flooding like this in the past, that said how much attention did we pay to the news when we were younger, maybe just did't have as much impact as it does these days.

Mike they still have the other road across from crathie to cairnshield

Braemar until this morning had no power phone lines etc. Going to be a long time rebuilding the river bank and the road again. 3 months at least. The Chinese wiould have it done in a week.

They had a temporary platform type road on the a82 for a long time so should be able to do similar while they rebuild it.

Turns out it wasn't Crathie bridge but Invercauld bridge so the only way in and out of Breamar is via Glenshee. Nightmare for locals, looks like a couple of months before it's repaired.
