Idiot Scottish Power

Post by tut » Fri Dec 11, 2015 10:04 pm

When we moved into Tut End they set a Dir Deb of £61/month. That is for electric heating, cooking, water heating, lighting, washing machine, dishwasher, tumble drier, etc, which I immediately increased to a realistic £180/month which we were paying at TT for electric only with no heating.

They took no payments at all for three months, we went into debt to the tune of £450, so they then reduced it to £67. I called them and increased it to £180 again, sent in the readings every month, and they have now reduced it again to £67.

Can not be bothered with dealing with twats like that anymore so will wait until they start asking for back payments from me and then start having some fun.

Scottish Power are probably the most incompetent company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. We raised a case with the Ombudsman last year and won. The case went on for over a year after we closed the account on my late mother in laws house. I had paid her bills for several years and they couldn't comprehend that I was still alive and paying our bills and kept closing our account and sending bills to our house for my mother -in - law to pay. When the case was closed we had over 40 pages of bills. I would rather live without power than deal with Scottish Power.
Most calls to them took around an hour to get through and even their call back system kept us hanging on for 20 minutes before they answered.

Scottish Power are 2nd worst ranked leccy supplier in UK according to Which 2015. The only one worse, and well documented as such, is NPower, whose service was so shockingly bad and made such a mess of my account & billing that they ended up offering and paying me £50 compensation  . Those even trying to get through to NPower or getting anyone remotely helpful can only understand how bad it must have been to actually get money out of them and my billing eventually sorted.

I've used the smaller ones in recent years - Sainsbury & also Co-op - and whilst never fantastic service, they are so much easier to deal with than the big players.

There again, Scottish Power are so good that they will not take enough money from me.

Tut, I has similar issues with Scottish Power they seem proud to have achieved such a poor level of customer service. Eventually the frustration got to a level which caused me to look into changing suppliers, something I've never really checked out nor thought would make a big difference. Wasn't I wrong, I was paying at least 30% more than I needed to and putting up with endless request to change the direct debit.

So I switched to GB energy, at least 30% less, and I've switched my mother electric and gas over to them as well. So far so good, they continue to offer the lowest rates, the switch was a piece of cake. They do ask for an upfront payment to make sure your account is always in credit. You can submit your own reading if you want online - they send a monthly reminder. If you don't submit it they just use an estimate and correct when you do submit. Overall its working well and I'm saving over £1k a year.

Left Scottish Power and Scottish Gas a long time ago. e-on were good, but pricing deteriorated so used U-switch to change to First Utility a couple of years back. So far so good..but never really had to test the customer service team...

I have actually had no probs with SP Kerry other than this trying to charge me too little. Quite happy to change for a better deal but have never understood why users try to make it so complicated. I pick the lowest price per unit added on to the daily charge, and so far that has been SP.

If anyone can find a better deal than 12.86p/unit and 20.55p/daily charge then please let me know.

We were with First Utility for a while and they were amazing. They massively overcharged us and we ended up 3k in credit. Then they wouldn't answer the phone and we had to go to the regulator and got a couple of hundred quid in compensation.

Still they were the cheapest again and we are back with them ;)

Thanks Kerry. Haven't changed in years as SSE Atlantic have been competitive & the customer service good, but just switched to GB off the back of your post with a circa 30% projected saving too.

When we tried to leave SP there were massive issues. It took almost a year with the ombudsman involved. All pretty much due to them being unable to make a data change on their system. Crazy. We've been with EDF since and the service has been night and day better.

Scottish power put in a new billing system a while ago. It's been the source of a large number of issues. We had similar problems and had to resort to calling in favours (we both use to work for them) to get it progressed.
