Abu Dhabi GP

Post by jen » Sun Dec 06, 2015 10:15 pm

Hi folks!!

Its been a wee while, but thought Id post a few wee pics from my first F1 race! I loved the whole weekend, the Abu Dhabi GP is def a great weekend! Theres so much going on. My dad came over to visit me for it and he had the best time ever!! We were in the North Grandstand, and though it was good as you get the first chicane and the hairpin, I think I would have preferred the main grandstand. I cycle the track twice a week, and I have to say I reckon it doesn't matter which grandstand you go to, they all have good points. All the chicanes are ace, and you'd get a great buzz from the main stand....

My dad and I bought full weekend tickets, so we got access to the pitlane walk on the Thursday which was a great highlight.... (think Campbell might be a bit jealous of what Im about to post! - my Dad was gutted he missed it cos he was in the crowd getting pics, but I stayed by the side of the crowd and nabbed her on her way past  ) Also got VIP tickets for the Thursday night concert so we were in one of the bars up the top at the side, I didn't listen to the music much though, just got drunk on the free booze!

Fri was practice and Enrique Iglesias, who we thought was fab!! We had to win wristbands for the golden circle (area at the front of the stage), but well worth it, as I think the people at the front enjoyed it better than those in the main area...

Sat I was working, but I managed to sneak away for a few hours to meet up with my new hubby (you can call me Mrs Button now...)... :love :love :love  Unfortunately I missed qually, but made Florence and the Machine gig at night. Man, she can move!! Great voice and so much energy!! It was great! Again, with golden circle bands, it made the gig much more enjoyable.

Sunday was the race, which the lead up to was great, with the etihad fly past and entertainment. The drivers parade was funny.... all the drivers on the back of the lorry chatting to each other and looking relaxed, with the exception of Hamilton, who was sitting at the front on his own with his back to everyone. I ended up sitting next to an ex F1 photographer (used to work for Sutton) and he told us some great stories of the drivers and F1 people he's worked with. He's going to send me some of his images. After the race was Blur, and despite me having to sing Parklike at the top of my voice in front of everyone in the grandstand to win the golden wristbands, we stayed in the main bit as my friends didn't win any bands. Blur was a bit of a disappointment tbh, which was a shame. They're a great band, but some of their stuff is a bit weird..... By the time it got to half way through, the place had emptied! We stayed to the end to hear them do their classics though.

The teams are still based at the track now, doing testing for pirelli, and Im guessing letting the test drivers have a decent shot. I stay close to the track so hear them start in the morning and throughout the day. Pretty cool.

Anyway, heres a few of my fav snaps (most either taken on my Canon G16 or my iPhone, though I think some of the Enrique gig ones were from my dads camera as my batteries had run out  ).....

I would add my recommendations for Abu Dhabi too although lots of people were saying it was really quiet compared to other years. I only went on the Saturday as I was on holiday with the other half and didn't think it was fair to leave her on her own for 3 days so opted for Sat so I could see Florence & the Machine.
I blagged into the marina too although probably on the smallest boat there but it was still a great experience. :thumbsup

Nice! Dad and I went to the Marina on the Tues or Wed night before the GP, and had some dinner sitting next to some of the guys on the Marussia and Ferrari teams! So surreal! Watched the party boat coming in during the day too, I tried to blag my way on it but I don't think I was wearing enough Prada, pretty sure that was what let me down! :damnfunny

All good really, thanks! I'm kept pretty busy, working long hours and long weeks, so when I do have down time, I really try to make the most of it! Its a good place to be though, sunny and warm all the time, except it was a bit cloudy today! Don't know what that's all about! :blackeye :damnfunny I'v def not regretted the decision, just wish Id done it sooner! I can't see me being here forever, but its a nice change, with a great job opportunity, so figured why not! I'll just see how it goes! :thumbsup

What have I started?

Last time I did an SE age related windup, it ended up with VX Jon swearing that Shug's 30th was actually his 40th. :damnfunny

Can't believe that was nearly 20 years ago....
