Load of old tosh. Some statistic manipulation going on there me thinks.

One of the functions on my daily driver is to set a max speed limit, and the car won't go above it. I cannot think of any circumstance where I would need that. I have a functioning eyes and brain (apparently) and am quite able to control my own speed. As per Roadcraft (Police Drivers' Manual and IAM driving manual) in some circumstances your are often better to accelerate out of a given situation, in the interests of safety - where does a speed limited work in that? I guess it is useful for the muppets who drive about in a dream, no idea of what is going on around them - like the average UK motorist I s'pose.

I would say most drivers want a car that will drive itself, so I can get on board with the article.
Well, until they realise that the car won't stop on double yellow lines, speed when they want to get to the shops before closing time, let them 'supervise the drive' having had a drink, move with no seat belt on, make that last minute change of mind and take the slip road by driving over the chevrons...

I used the max speed limit function on a hire car once. It was a Renault Megane, and with years of driving a classic Mini followed by my Elise as a daily, this new technology (along with electric windows, cruise control, air con etc.) was all quite intriguing. It took way too much time to set up, and too much looking at the dash, time which would have caused some accidents I suspect..

Agree on all the above. The worry is "non-enthusiasts"

Mrs Bee is the perfect example, having made comments such as "why do you need a car which can do more than 70 if it's illegal in UK to go any faster" and the like.

She will be locked in the basement if she keeps that up.

Oh, would that my elise could reach the speed limit :-)

The good news is that once it works again it will never have a speed limiter fitted :-)
