First Oman crash

Post by tut » Wed Nov 18, 2015 3:16 pm

I have written a few posts about my time in Oman, but I just discovered this book by an old friend which bought back a lot of memories. Mike went out the same time as me in 1971, he was a retired RN Commander helicopter pilot, and he had obviously done the Staff College writing course to be able to produce his book. However he was unluckier than me, he was standing by the BBQ alongside me outside the Officers Mess when the RPG landed alongside us, pages 139-141, then had his toe shot off shortly after my incident, pages 151-154. As a result he left Oman in 1972 after just one year and went civy flying,so you can imagine what it was like on a daily basis if you multiply that by seven.

I found a preview of part of the book on the web which covers the year that he was there up to page 157 when he left before he lost any more parts of his body.

When are you getting yours written, Tut? Or at least dictated in a Laphroaig-induced slur for somebody to translate later.
