NLC - Raspberry Pi question

Post by Eric K » Mon Nov 16, 2015 12:09 pm

My wife expressed an interest in Raspberry Pi so I immediately added it to the Christmas present list.

Would this kit be a good starter pack?

Thanks. :)

Yes, nothing else you need really, as long as you've got an ethernet hole spare somewhere near where you want to connect it. If not, you might want a compatible USB wifi adapter. Search amazon for "wifi dongle for raspberry pi 2" and you'll get plenty options, all much the same.

What does your wife have in mind for it? As a desktop/general computer for broswing, it'll be disappointingly slow. It's cheap for a reason. If she has specific programming or electronics project in mind, or just a general curiosity great! :)

Oh, have you got a USB mouse and keyboard already?

Thanks. General curiosity I reckon.

I've seen some of the things you've done in another post and that's a real inspiration.

Good shout with the WiFi dongle, mouse and keyboard.

Thanks again. :)

No worries. Drop me a PM if you get stuck. I'm only 20 minutes away and happy to swap tutorials for mugs of tea. :D

From the previous thread on this topic, I've still go the starter kit my daughter won at school, all still boxed up. Can take a photo of stuff and perhaps Graeme with his knowledge can see if it has what you need and compare to that Amazon link. Pretty sure she's not looking for anything even close to £50!

Thanks but I'm afraid I just couldn't bring myself to give her something for Christmas which isn't "new".

I'm sure people will think I'm daft but I just couldn't.

Ha, no problem.

It's all boxed with each individual item still in sealed bags, own boxes etc in a larger cardboard box which I opened to have a look. Same items as the Amazon offer, except 512mb model b but also includes keyboard, mouse and usb wifi. Anyone interested, give me a shout.
