Radio in S1...why?

Post by Cawdors1 » Fri Oct 30, 2015 10:34 am

Is it just me or is the radio in an S1 totally pointless. Now I must admit to having a rather raspy loud Larini Club Sport system, but even so it can't really be heard even at low speed. Thinking of taking it out n popping a single din pocket in instead. Could drop my phone etc into it as interior storage is limited? Jon

Most people use ear phones if they want to listen.

I just have Radio2 on which I can hear fine through the speakers, even when going around KH and overtaking the V6 Exiges. :damnfunny

I rarely use my radio in the S1, but like to listen to it from time to time. I usually have foam ear plugs in while driving, which work well at cutting down the wind and road noise, but seem to let the music / chat through okay. Radio is easier to hear with the ear plugs in... really! :thumbsup

Dom's right. I eventually binned the radio in my S1, but before I did, the way to hear it was earplugs to take away the background din of the car, then crank the stereo up. Not exactly hi-fi, but worked. Don't listen to anything subtle though...

What Tut failed to mention above is the fact that he is now driving an S2, with a Honda lump and a stereo the previous owner fitted that includes a decidedly un-lotus bass speaker thing between the seats......No wonder he can hear radio 2. everyone can hear it.....

So solution is, bin the radio from the S1 and just follow Tut around. Should not be too difficult in your car as he is getting on now and not quite as quick as he was....and is slowed further by lugging all that stereo stuff around.....

That or plug earphones into your phone and listen through that. This is what I tend to do as you can also then tell when someone calls you.....just a pity they cannot hear you when you answer......I also have hands free in the car but that is totally pointless at anything above 2500 RPM or if the roof is off....or Tut is driving by....

Is that what that box is, thought it was something to do with the ECU.

Good thing about Radio2 is it gives you traffic warnings.

I even have a hands free kit in my S1. People appear to hear me even better than from the Evora. Pioneer. Impressive!

something to listen to when it breaks down?

Always have used noise isolating earphones for mine - if you think the engine renders a radio useless in a normal S1, try and Honda powered one.........utterly pointless.
