Evora Opportunity - Realistic Value?

Post by greido » Wed Oct 21, 2015 11:24 am

I’ve been offered the opportunity of purchasing a manual Evora S SR in white with red interior in a private sale, it’s covered 13,000 miles and is coming up for 2 years old, it looks to be In good condition but will require a service and a wheel refurb (looks like scratches, not serious).
Has anyone got an insight to how much this car is worth and what issues it may have that would not be covered by the Lotus warranty? I’ve got my own thoughts on what I should be offering for it but would be interested to hear your opinions.

Unless it's Craig himself that's brokering your deal, it's worth a call to CMC.

And also to Brandon at Murray Lotus.

I can only comment on NA experiences, which are not relevant here!

I would echo the above and get CMC to inspect it.

Check the clutch to see its not too heavy for you. Might be classed as a characteristic. (I should say mine is completely fine and light)

Good cars appear to be moving on quite fast just now.

I don't really know about the value, but servicing is probably not a huge amount £200/£300 ?
Wheel curbing is all too frequent as most owners will know due to wide rear end & low profile tyres so don't let that put you off, a full refurb would probably be £50 a wheel
Newer Evoras have a 3 year manufacturers warranty, not sure when that started so you might be lucky

Speak to Brandon or Craig on all fronts to get the expert view. They are fantastic cars so my advice would be to go for it. Good luck :thumbsup

Sports Racers have a 3 year warranty.

I'd expect the one you are looking at to go somewhere between £43k to £45k. I've been keeping a close eye on them for the last 6 months and now that the 400 is around and way up in the £75k mark the Evora SSR is now a much more desirable from a price point of view given it was the best of all the Evoras before the 400.

I actually think pre 400 Evoras especially the SRs will totally stabilise price wise and people are holding on to them now which is obvious given the lack of used stock on the market just now.

Evora Opportunity - Realistic Value?

Post by DDtB » Thu Oct 22, 2015 9:11 pm

The problem the SSR might have is in a couple years when the used 400s hit the market... Why buy the S when the 400 is cheaper to run and faster and not a huge amount more at that point...

As someone once said the new version of the Evora is superior otherwise why would lotus have made it... Need the extra power to be extra safe from being humiliated by a hot hatch too ;-)

Everyone knows the smart money long term is on the 'inferior' NA

Thanks for the replies guys.... On what basis would the smart money be on the n/a? - Because it's far different to the 400?

Stop fcucking around and buy the fastest one that you can afford.

That way it it is not going to be upgraded for a year or more, and you will still have the best.

Half joking tbh... After reading a lot of crap on seloc about NA owners allegedly hyping them up when the S is clearly superior in every way...that and the implications the only reason you would buy the NA is if you couldn't afford an S.

But.. The NA is pretty limited in numbers... Cheapest to run and in everyday use on public roads very little between it and the S despite what some folk claim.

Prices on the NA have had the lowest depreciation in recent years. Virtually zero depreciation on some. It's different enough to the 400 that most people will consider either or. Whereas the S is pretty close to the 400 but worse mpg..higher tax.. Less power...etc. So given a choice of two used ones...people might stretch for the 400.. Whereas an NA buyer is less likely to as it's a pretty different car.

Not saying the S is a bad buy at all... But I think the NA will depreciate less overall and adding in the lower costs... It's a smart option.

And I have one.

If you have the budget, you buy an S. If you don't, you buy an NA.

Simples.

Not unlike the days of S1 vs S1 111S. Both great. In their own sweet way. Except the 111S is a bit of a screamer with its CR box. Whereas the Evora S is...ah...wait a minute ;-)

In a few years time the 400 all being well will still being made, where as the S1 Evora numbers are now capped. Not many of the most desirable post MY12 cars were produced especially in 2013-14 so that in my mind will make them more exotic and keep prices firm. ( I hope)

The NA car is the sensible choice for daily drivers but the S comes out top for someone who cares for their vehicle so as to ensure its value is retained and they dont drive a shed's. :D

Thanks for all the replies guys...... After much procrastination and verbals with the other half I went to pull the trigger today and it was gone, a few hours earlier and I'd have been going for long drive this weekend.
Gutted.
I'll continue to keep my out for the right car so if anyone"s looking to sell or trade their Evora please give me a shout.
