Looks like you're right - back surgery for broken vertebrae and also broken ribs and sternum.

Get well soon Guy.

Watched the video and 2 feet to the left and the tree would have stopped him, would have been a different story then.
Respect to these bikers and Guy.

Daft question perhaps, but were the marshalls about to remove his helmet?

Seems crazy if so.

I can't imagine they would try to remove his helmet surely everyone knows not too so I reckon they were stabilising his head.

Top end race helmets (and possibly some cheaper helmets now, I'm not sure) have an emergency system for removing the liner to allow emergency removal of the liner so as to allow helmet removal without pulling on he neck etc. I did think it was a bit quick to be removing the helmet myself but I'm not a Marshall

They should have had some training on removing helmets safely, I'd imagine - Job of the first marshall on scene is to maintain cervical spine control (assuming the i.p's still breathing / doesn't have a catastrophic haemorrhage :P ) - You really need two people to remove the lid properly. As Neil said, some helmets have an airbag / bladder internally above the crown of the head, which can be inflated to get things moving.

(Just ensure you unclip / chop the chin strap prior to inflation :) )

Nice bit of Guy here if you can get through the gratuitous stuff at the start:-

Looks like they have just removed the hedge and maybe other trees. Glad he's ok.
