Wine appreciation.....(NLC!)

Post by Rag_It » Tue Oct 10, 2006 9:30 pm

Chaps, it's not even mid week but just stumbled across a lovely bottle of white, similar to Vino Esmeralda(sp!) but slipping very easily down the throat and i have a big day of cycling tomorrow which is bad!!

Anyone any recommendations for nice bottles of white, or any wine???

I guess it comes from moving to a small village, and the sight of a Lotus slipping away from me...

Well...yet again, spookily appropriate timing.

My buddies at Creative Wines (http://www.creativewines.co.uk/) are the fellows to talk to. Trading for a couple of years, recently expanded into the Stirling Wine Centre in Springkerse business park. I don't buy wine from anyone else.

Great range of wine from across the globe, mostly names you won't find in the supermarket but at prices the supermarkets would kill for. I have a few personal favourites I could list for you, but like life with Lotuses, it's all about personal taste!

Order online or by phone, visit in person, whatever suits. Delivery available.

Give them a shout, tell them Campbell sent you.

Lawrence can testify to the quality of a couple of their reds, too ;-)

Good man, might take my old man for a day out there, as he truely does love his wine... theme running here!

Anyway, list looks good and some nice Ozy whites on it - always a fav!

Up for trying anything so any personal recommendations always welcome..

OK, you asked for it...
  • Anakena Viognier
  • Anakena Riesling
  • La Casada Pinot Grigio
  • Pascual Toso Chardonnay
  • Pascual Toso Malbec (great with steak!)
  • Montaudon champagnes...any of 'em!
Like I said, all about taste. I buy mostly near the bottom of their range for financial reasons but the Toso Malbec is a great example of an £8 bottle tasting a lot better than it costs ;-) Near the top of my limit, that one...

As a regular frequenter of Cape Town on business trips I can definitely recommend South African wine (well my wife can due to me being t-total).

A good books for SA wine is the John Platters Guide:
http://www.platteronline.com/home/

The online guide only lets you have access ot guides from 2 years prior but I have bought the 2006/2007 guide when across here and there are a large number to recommend (unforunately the book is at home as currently out in Cape Town).

Ones I can recommend off the top of my head:
Kaapzicht Vision
Beyerskloof Synergy Pinotage (available in Tesco's)

Good place in Edinburgh to get the Kaapzicht is Great Grog.

Cheers
DMW
