Luke has his car on PH at £16.5K as it is a CAT D, and he has just had an e-mail from www.we-buy-motors.com offering him a confirmed £16,250 payable by cheque, EFT, or cash. I can not open the url which could be my flaky internet, but would be grateful if any body could try for me or let me know if they have heard/had dealings with the Company.
They are Manchester based but must have agents around the country if they are genuine as they gave him pick up times from Old Deer of 1600-1800-2000 today, or from 1000 tomorrow. However Luke goes off to Thailand tomorrow so it would have to be arranged today. The car is with John Duthie so should be in safe hands if there is anything dodgy about it. If they try dropping the price when they get there then they would be wasting their time.
Cheers

The domain name was registered yesterday so they must have setup the business pretty speedy. It all looks scammy, especially the use of the AutoTrader name and logo.
Edit; and here is the scam part. Of course you will return it at the appointment, which you won't turn up for.
''9.a Our Fees
http://www.we-buy-motors.com does NOT charge any fees for our service.
We may request a fully refundable appointment deposit. The deposit will be returned to you at the appointment - even if you do not decide to sell your car to us.

Deposit held in escrow by Mr George Agdgdgwngo?
Arriving broadside, in a cloud of smoke......
Re: Help required
JJ's spot on, scam to get your appointment deposit and then do a runner with it. It'll never get to the stage of negotiating the car value, as they won't show up.

Bang on, we would never have gone past this point of course as I carried on with the booking which Luke did not. Expected it to be more than £75, but i wonder how many suckers they get.

Police will ignore it so they will probably get away with it for a while. Just about to google as there will be something there reporting it as a scam.

the car was cheap for a reason when Luke bought it and as you know buying from a dealer gave him some sort of assurance. trying to sell that car on was always going to be hard, better get him to bend over and take a big hit on that.
