Lazy armchair SE Tour Planner required

Six/Eight People so far
Three/Four cars
3 days/two nights
July/August
Probably hotels for ease of booking

Any recommendations for routes and accommodation based on recent experiences?

Three Chimneys, Dunvegan, Skye.

Marine Hotel & Apartments, Brora.

Ceilidh Place, Ullapool.

Join those 3 up in just about any order you like and she'll have a blast.

Stretch to three nights and do the "North Coast 500" route?

Night 1 - Torridon (see Steve Carter's site).

Night 2 - John O’Groats (stay at "The Inn at John O’Groats").

Night 3 - Contin (stay at "Coul House").
Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow ...

Eric

Same goes for my Black Isle comments.

Torridon is an easy pick as well great roads and a good choice of eateries

Three chimneys in Skye is excellent. It's not a cheap stay though. But food is fantastic.

The roux brothers have a new place on the west coast, can't remember where though, lochinver does ring a bell..

Thurso direction is out of my knowledge sphere I am afraid

My recollection of driving in John o'groats direction is that it's a bit plain. Durness to Tongue is pleasant with Ben Loyal to enjoy...then I'd turn back south towards Lairg.

I generally head to Lairg from Laxford Bridge though, and cut out the single track to Durness altogether.

Agreed Campbell........You forgot the bit about German and Dutch tourists in LT vans.......travelling at 20mph...
Some good hotel suggestions there and will await the new NC500 website to see what they offer up tours wise.
They are trying to create the road trip vibe for the classic car clubs and general tourists alike.......and why not.

Yep lots of that - Torridon Inn rooms are lovely and half the hotel price if there is a Boag Budget (as if)

http://www.thetorridon.com/inn/

Avoid the Kinlochewe Hotel at all costs....

If you're going right to the top McKay's Rooms and Restaurant in Durness is great, and to find a "lux boutique hotel" that far up is nuts

http://www.visitdurness.com/

You will of course remember your own Pier House Appin recommendations....
