Post by Eric K » Wed May 20, 2015 1:02 pm

Do people think this is repairable?

Quite close to the shoulder, but perhaps worth a wee word from your friendly local tyre chappie...

Has it gone all the way through? If not, then you might get away with simply unscrewing it.

I would imaging most tyre repair places would say it's too close to the shoulder to repair - as Ross says, a friendly place might be more helpful.

If its just in the tread rubber will be fine. Deflate and see how far in it is.

Fingers crossed for you.

Given the angle it might just be in the tread.... unscrew and see what happens!

Looks like it might have gone right through. Even if it has I would repair it if it was mine.

Thanks folks.

As it happens, my wife's Fiat is booked in to those lovely people at AW Autotech tomorrow.

I've whipped the wheel off and stuck it in her car for them to have a look at.

I know I can trust them to give me straight advice.

I was scared to unscrew the thing in case the tyre deflated - 'cos then I'd then be snookered.

I'm going to bet they'll condemn it. Health and Safety. Imagine the lawsuit?

Willie at CLCM would definitely repair that with one of those pull through patches. [edit: if he wasn't retired]

Even if it is repairable, being so close to the shoulder I would always have a nagging doubt about pushing hard on the tyre. Should be OK if it hasn't gone through to the carcass and is just sideways in the tread.

I've had two puncture repairs in the past year with similar sized screws and bolts. I blame the house buildings sites I'm driving past to get to and from work.

I'm sure Kev will be able to give you a frank opinion on the tyre's safety, hopefully it's fine

Not repairable.

I could maybe get a different opinion elsewhere but, as John, says, there would always be the nagging.

Intending to put the car up for sale next week too ... and going away for the weekend ... and booked in for valeting Monday (in Ellon) ... Image

Laws Tyres are looking to see if they can get a rear pair of AO48s.

If they can't, it'll be four R888s.

Any other options I'm not thinking about?
