Koh Samui to Dubai.

Post by tut » Sat Apr 25, 2015 8:49 am

Arrived at the Airport around 1830, fast tracked through everything as I was in a wheelchair and the family had stickers, only to have Luke denied entry. We were here for the Half Moon Festival which means that all the locals stand at the side of the road and soak all passing people and vehicles with water guns.

The boys were on scooters and got soaked, but so did Luke's passport. We dried it out but the photograph had been damaged. No problem getting out of KS, or in and out of Bangkok, but at Dubai they would not let him through and were going to deport him back to BK as thy should not have let him out. Fortunately Clare had stayed with him and not come through passport control, no way they would let him through but they did agree to send him back to the UK but we then had to wait about three hours whilst she negotiated with Emirates staff to get him back home. Fortunately they were excellent and arranged a flight this morning at 0730 on his original ticket back to Aberdeen with no charge.

However this was at 2200 so she got them to let him use the Elite Lounge so he got a meal and a bed for the night and got away this morning with no problem. A sad way to end his holiday as he was looking forward so much to Dubai as he had not been here before, but at least we did not have the nightmare of him being sent back to BK. Anybody see the Tom Hanks film Terminal?

Very proud of my daughter, lord know what would have happened if it had just been the three of us without Clare and Jamie who had contact via their mobiles as we were hundreds of yards apart. Why did we not call the British Embassy, we did but it was Friday and closed and they were all off to a beach party.

However a great view from Clare's back garden in the new apartment.

Jeezo Tut! Such a shame Luke didn't manage to get to Dubai. :( does he need a lift home?

Hope everything was fine when you got to Clare's! I bought some milk so you's could have a cuppa when you got in and I'm hoping the maid changed the sheets and cleaned the floors, everything else was clean and tidy anyway.

BTW, I had awful allergies while I was there, like really bad hayfever, anti histamines did the trick! Have a great time in Dubai, I'm missing it loads already!! Xx

PS-you're welcome!! :cheers

Thanks for the offer Jen, but I think that he arrived in Aberdeen around 1500. Flat was fine, but like a bloody ice cube. Turned off the A/C, been off since and had to open the patio doors and bedroom windows to let some heat in from the 34 degs outside. Actually wearing a sweat shirt now, floor is stone cold, outside I can only just walk on the road. Something weird happening.

We are having a roast at home tonight, then Ravis tomorrow night. Driving up to RAK on Monday to stay with Steve and Sandy, then back down on Thursday when Ian flies in from Singapore, and Friday Brunch at the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray.

http://www.jumeirah.com/en/hotels-resor ... -brunches/ 5.5 dirhams to the £.

Saturday at the Rib Room, which fortunately we have two for one coupons for as prices here are on a different level. The boys want their fill of Wagu steaks, plus Ian will add on a lobster as well. Different world to our S_E Indian meals together, OK for a one off, we can afford it as such, but I actually feel guilty at restaurants being able to charge silly prices like that, in what is an unreal Country when it comes to excess. First meal back home will be bacon, eggs, tattie scones for breakfast, followed by beans and cheese on toast for dinner.

You need to go for lunch to Lime Tree Cafe, either on Jumeirah Beach or Sheikh Zayed Road opposite the gold and diamond park. Get the Carrot Cake. Amazing! The Lemon chicken sandwich is awesome too. Awwww, I wanna be back there!!!

I felt it was cold too from the first night, so turned it off while I was there at night. Every time I turned the temp up, it went down? Weird. I thought I was doing something wrong so just turned it off, then when I needed it on, turned it on until I was fine again and turned it back off!

Was there on thursday Tut, it really is a different place altogether. Could see the apartments your in from the 145th floor of the Burj Khaliefah tower, looked very nice indeed. I was staying in the somewhat less glamourous Ramada in Burj Dubai(company's choice not mine). Hope the issues at the airport didn't ruin it for you!
theres some pretty good go karts up at the Dubai motorpark (think thats what its called) if you want to keep you're hand in ;)

Iv just returned from two weeks there Simon, I fell in love with the place! I was staying in the apartment Tut is in right now (in fact the same bed! ) it's in a fabulous location, though a lot of my friends are in JLT and the marina.

The karting place is in Motor City. I found this out from a guy I got chatting to that was a car salesman who worked next door, and with the same franchise, the Lotus Garage! Another guy I went for a drink with worked for Caterham before becoming a teacher and moving to Dubai! They were both a bit shocked when I told them the cars Iv owned! :damnfunny

Did you manage to see anything else while there? I did loads while I was there so will do a write up with pics soon!

I was only there for a day this time Jen (joining a ship for work), first time back there in nearly 10 years and its changed a lot! managed to go up the tower, see the aquarium and went down to the jamierah Palm for a look and then mall of the Emerates on the way back. Not bad for a day really. hoping to get a holiday there again at some point though and see a bit more of the place.

Hi Tut,

Glad to see you're enjoying Dubai, its a fantastic place, I love it there. We're heading over in November for a combined Race to Dubai and Abu Dhabi GP trip.

Have you managed a boys night to the Rattlesnake yet !!!!!! ( behind Metropolitan hotel on Sh Zayed Road. Certainly not a place you'd take Verion. But had many a mental night in there. ( In my single days of course)

I'll think of you in the sunshine tomorrow when I'm heading over the Lecht with my wooly hat and heated seats on.

Give my regards to Verion and the kids

Cheers
