Hard filled driveways - West Lothian

Post by douglasgdmw » Mon Mar 02, 2015 9:23 am

Hi,

We share a driveway with the another 2 steadings and unfortunately the shared access path is full of potholes after the winter. Unfortunately one of the steadings does not want it tarmac'd so we are faced with compact stones etc.

Anyone knows a local company that would do a good job - means the "non practical" modes of transport will have an easier life getting onto the main road.

Cheers
George

Ps Did think about getting some stones/sands to do it myself but suspect that will only lead to a temporary job unless S.E can tell me otherwise.

Cant hurt to try a DIY fix first off - buy hardcore/ gravel & hire a wacker plate for a weekend.

Why don't you get the neighbour who doesn't want Tarmac to do the shovelling. That might change their mind.

Usually with communal drives, the person who doesn't want something, doesn't want the cost, and will happily let work be done, and benefit from it without any expenditure. So maybe a shared diy suggestion would be a good approach :D

From what I heard from the people we bought the house from I think it more to do with what they perceive "in keeping with the properties" i.e. they think gravel/hardpacked is more in keeping with the steading feel than a tarmac driveway :o

We are lucky that our section of the property has a tarmac driveway which makes it easier for the motorbike/spyder however that stops when its the communal section and goes onto hardpacked stone,

However think I will suggest the DIY approach as its going to be considerably cheaper and will see what the rest of our neighbours commitment is like. As much as I would love it all to be tarmac with the new kitchen we have chosen don't think I would like to foot a tarmac driveway bill quite yet :)
