For BMWs the most reputable I found is ecotune Scotland in Glasgow although I see a lot of vag cars getting work done via their Facebook page.

Either Star or A4Audi in Glasgow both deal with decent mapping companies and have good reputations. Ecotune are professional tuners though, and would be getting my first call, especially as this ECU may need to be done out the car with some proper brain surgery tools. Ask them if this is the case - ecotune will do this process in-house but I'm not sure what Star and A4Audi do. If your mate is speaking to all of them, ensure he asks the full process for this ECU and what their procedures are if 3rd parties are involved.

I took my Mk1 Golf Clipper to Star Performance once and definitely got fleeced. Stupidly I said what other cars we had and it was definitely a "we can make a bit out of this" moment. Most of the stuff they did had to be rectified by a real VW specialist.
They may be good with the newer stuff as it is more along their normal line of business but just make sure you go in with your eyes open (and maybe mouth shut).

For 10 years I ran Audis in all shapes and sizes
Agree with the above, (used to be) a chap called Jim Curley, he runs the car on the RR and will give custom maps as well as proprietary things. that was from MY 94-06 Audis.
re douglasbmw: I dont disagree with your expereince, anything classic/old I would have gone elsewhere as well. My vaious NA 5 pots, MY84-92 were all tuned in by a specialist in Warrington. horses for courses!

I remember reading some bad reports in the past so have always steered clear of Star if I'm honest, I don't know why but lots of garages are out to fleece customers..
I used 'Advanced Autos' in Longstone, Edinburgh when I first got my Passat for a hot start issue... they changed sensors, charged a couple of hundred quid and car was just the same I complained and they said the sensors werre needing replaced anyway, they also stated my front pads were needing replaced as the inside ones were almost worn out, I didn't let them do that as I could easily do them myself.. I took the pads out to paint the calipers a week later and the pads were as new! I'm still on the same set of pads 30,000 miles later! Thieving barstewards! They also screwed my mother in-law's pal on her 1 year old Fiat 500 service... £350!

she didn't think to question them
I need another Lotus so I can go back to using a decent garage lol.......
Thanks for the feedback guys, keep it coming....

Well that is disappointing to hear.
It is a few years since i last went to Star, erk, like 6... Jim used to be really good and helpful.
But i have been out of those circles for a while, I went to MRC twice, it was a hell of a drive and not cheap, but remedied a long standing running issue i had.
I have a good friend who runs a VAG specialist I use for most things, but he won't touch remaps. maybe for good cause!
