From mikes thread there seems to be lots of Cayenne experience on here, so wondered if anyone had tried a remapped v6 diesel. I get mine next week 2012 model, I driven about 5 miles in deep snow with it, so i don't have much to judge from. Even with the 245 bhp, it was rapidly running through the gears and mid range with all the torque was far from sluggish.

So the remap puts it up to around 290 has just wondering if it made any noticeable difference in the real world.

Won't this just make it virtually uninsurable ? All the big players will immediately say no. Anytime in the past I have looked into a remap this is what breaks the deal for me at the first hurdle. I can't be bothered with the angst of ringing round specialist niche insurers every year.

I've never had an issue, just quote the modified power output, but that doesn't mean it would be the same for everyone.

I have a 2013 245BHP model and to be honest, I don't feen the need for any more power. It's got enough poke to overtake when I need it.

Test drove the V6 diesel which was fine, but we bought the V8 diesel which is on a different level with respect to available thrust. Not sure where the V6 remap would add the torque, if across a wide operating range it would be worth it, but if only extending the top end a bit probably best to leave it alone. You would need to try a remapped one I think.

I don't disagree, the V6 is a pretty capable beast, just wondering if there was any experience. Anyway I'll run it for a few weeks and decide.

The superchip map below show a pretty good improvement from low rpm, which is usually my concern with diesels. I guess with the torque generated and the auto box, you may not be that low down the range anyway.

Could somebody put me straight as to why you would declare a re-map?

Unlike a Chip it can not be seen, and even if they decided to plug in a reader to the OBD2, I am pretty sure that it can not come back with a hp reading.

It is traceable. A VAG technician explained it to me once.

Not if you have a good enough crash.

A fussy insurer would struggle with an Emerald ECU if they could understand what it was. The improvement the emerald made to the Exige was soooooo significant it just proved to me how conservative manufacturers have to be to meet all the regulations etc.

The motorhome insurance is interesting, they seem to assume if you have a 130bhp Ducato diesel, you will remap it, so they provide an upgrade allowance to 170bhp.

Out of interest I did a quick search and the insurance companies have moved on, some have fixed price additions some just add it to the list of extras and say thanks, insurance employees had never heard of an investigation checking the map installed. I also noted the AVIVA transfer for the Cayenne required every option to be declared and valued - alloy wheels, towbar etc most of which was factory fitted. I ended up ticking most boxes - but the premium stayed the same, so not all bad.
