Plasma/LCD TVs

The RGB scart socket on my TV decided to stop working tonight so I've now got my Sky box output set to PAL and the picture's rubbish. So I'm on the hunt for a decent plasma/LCD. Probably need it to be less than 42" as I reckon that'd look too big anyway.
So anyone have any recommendations on where to buy or even just to look at some where they actually care about showing you the picture?

There is no such thing as too big....
I have a Sony rear projection, one of the newer ones. I gave the best picture of a large group of TV's. And it was also significantly cheaper, which was a bonus.

Always go LCD if it's a flat panel your after, Plasma is a dieing breed, Sony have even dropped plasmas from there range which speaks volumes.
The best TV for bucks that I have seen is the Toshiba 42WLT66, true HD
currys do it for 1599 but I'm sure you can find it cheaper elsewhere on the net, here's a review of it

I don't want one that's any deeper than my current 28" CRT so another CRT or rear projection is out. I don't like it when a TV is too big for a room so I'm probably gonna go for around a 37" one.

Sony do the bravia range which is superb also, just a slightly less resolution.
or you can get a 32" slim line CRT HD tv by samsung, again currys do one of these for 499, I would say the same depth as the current DLP rear project TVs, it is very slim.

My rear projection is only 6" deep, most people think its a Plasma, they dont believe me when I tell them what it is...
like I said, its one of the newer ones that is still in SONY's range

Hmmm... not sure I agree with that actually.... The new NEC plasmas for example have a lifespand of 40-60,000 hours which is the same as that quoted for LCD and plasma still has the best reputation for picture quality when you're talking about a video source. We still sell a lot more plasmas than LCD.
Sony plasmas are pretty cack anyway..... they often just bought the panels and speakers etc. from other manufacturers, bodged them together and stuck their badge on them. When LCD came on the scene, Sony said it would never work..... ended up costing them jobs across Europe when they had to spend mega bucks playing catch-up on folk like Samsung.

Simon, I have a 37" Plasma. It's a Panasonic and I'm really happy with it.
Try setting you Sky output to RGB (think it's that one). Cheapest I found was on the Dixons website.

Hey Si
I'd go with DDTB on this one.
I've got a Samusung plasma and a Sony Bravia LCD. Both are superb, and i think the picture is possibly slightly better on the plasma.
Having HDMI inputs helps though
Let me know if you've any q's or issues although I'm interviewing in glasgow today so wont be on the forum much, but we can always have a chat when my car dies at the sidc day on saturday

Must have HDMI which mine has two.
Just checked my model number: Panasonic TH37PX60B+ CAB Flat Panel TV which is £1249 from Dixons - that's the TV and a stand. It's also wall mountable
The 42" version is only £50 more but having seen your lounge you may have the same problem as me where a 42" would look odd/dominate the room.
