30th Birthday Dilema

Post by mwmackenzie » Thu Dec 04, 2014 2:41 pm

My good lady is about to turn 30 next February and I'm at a loss as to what to do for it. She wanted to go to New York but that is waaaay out of budget I'm thinking... I woud expect a 3 night break in NY to come in over £2k all in?

So I'm looking for suggestions for a nice wee romantic 2 night get away I can score for about £600ish.

The Monster in-law has suggested having a wee party for her, so my grand master plan is possibly..... dinner (Most likely The Raeburn in Edinburgh, Know the GM) followed by surprise party, followed by hotel by the airport and a flight away in the morning for maybe just 2 nights as we'll miss the kiddies too much if it's any longer...

Also open to other gift ideas! I'd have just given her an Experience Limits driving voucher if Andy hadn't sold out lol

thanks

Mark :cheers

Why don't you watch Lastminute and the BA sites for deals mate. I get emails all the time for this stuff.

Remember though NYC in Feb will be VERY cold. Routinely -15-20C. Very different place at that time of year.

Will keep an eye out for you.

Domestically, what about 3 Chimneys?

I was hearing very good things about this site yesterday http://www.holidaypirates.com/

I guess the key is flexibility, to score the best deal.

As for NY, i have to say a 2-3 night break, you'd barely touch the sides, not to mention just be in a one huge zombie like state! It is amazing though, and she's right you do have to go at some point.

Thanks guys for the heads ups!

Not sure about Skye, boring drive in a passat diesel lol and being from Lewis I've seen most of Skye already, not ruling out other UK cities with sites to see like London, Madchester? York?

We did Prague for her 21st so heading back there might be an option, unfortunately I missed her 18th by a few months as I hadn't wuite picked her up then hahaha

Other European cities I like to hear about, and then there is Iceland but again I don't know what prices when there would be like as I'd like to do some tours and see some sights when there. Not looking for the like of Norway where a beer will need a bank loan hahaha...

Cheers again guys

But has the missus seen Skye? It's not about you, after all. And 3 Chimneys is fab. You'll get a self catering nearby for peanuts too, if rooms are too pricey there.

I don't think she'd thank me for the journey in the old oil burner though lol she spends enough time in it... I'll have a butchers though seeing as its highly recommended :thumbsup

Will be driving up through Skye on way home for my school reunion in April as the Ullapool terminal will be closed to make it work with our new ferry... Not sure I'm sold on Skye if I'm honest :| :blackeye

Spend two days sitting in a plane for three days skiing?

Course tis easier if you are flying First Class.

For my wife's 40th - I hired the 50 seater cinema in the Scotsman Hotel
Its on the floor -3 from the North Bridge - basically its a conference room, but they show things like Its a Wonderful Life on Xmas eve etc.

We went for a meal in the restaurant & afterwards - went downstairs for the surprise party - Watched Thelma & Louise (her favourite movie)
all the girls were dressed up - headscarves & sunglasses - blokes in blue jeans & white shirts

Good night - cost about £400 to hire it

Two negatives make a positive but only in Scotland do two positives make a negative - 'Aye right.'
