F1
Re: F1

Some great overtakes. Bianchi looks serious unfortunately. Lots of concerned journos, but all the critical questions afterwards seem to be about FIA decisions to run the race, should it have gone ahead, moved earlier, or are JCBs dangerous etc. Nobody asking what Bianchi was doing out of control under waved yellows/SC with marshals on the track. Surely there's no excuse for that lack of caution. Marshals deserve to work safely. Still, lacking all the facts, I just hope he's ok.

Re: F1
According to the FIA press release it is as serious as it could be. Hope he pulls through. Sounds like the actual crash was similar to that of Maria De Villota a few years back, waved yellows or not I don't think recovery vehicles should be on track without a safety car deployed first. Either that or crane used from behind the Armco barriers. Could have been avoided imo.
Re: F1
A shame that there was an incident and such a serious injury but I'm with Graeme, double waved yellows should have been sufficient to cover the incident. There will almost certainly be a ban on recovery vehicles being out from behind the barriers at any time other than safety car periods.
Strange coverage by the BBC when it was live, it was like they had missed the fact it happened as they seemed to think it was for the Sutil incident as it wasn't mentioned until some time after that there had been a second off!
Fingers crossed for a speedy recover for Bianchi.

Just watched this video clip of Adrian Sutil's accident before Bianchi's was involved, look at the top left of the picture at the end of the video clip. Am I right in see the marshal waving the green flag before the JCB had left the circuit ??????

Re: F1
Makes me feel sick seeing that. Horrible collision. Really hope he will make a full recovery.
Echo other's comments regarding double waved yellows.
Suspect this will lead to a lot more safety car deployments.

Re: F1
Green flag is after the incident on the track, to let the drivers know they have now passed the incident.... Re: F1
I assume that, with the worsening conditions, even under double waved yellows at what might be thought to be a safe pace, aquaplaning on a river is easily possible. Worn tyres etc etc. Basic question is, will the fella be OK. Fingers crossed.
FWIW, I agree that cranes on a track during a wet race probably ought to be under a Safety Car. Interestingly I thought it had been deployed after Sutil's off, but even if so, Bianchi perhaps arrived at the scene before the SC did.

Re: F1
Double waved flags definitely would suffice under dry conditions but not a track covered in water and directly opposite the breaking zone where the entry speed is probably 150mph even in the wet. The problem with flags is drivers are reluctant to slow little more than a lift and coast. Agree on the coverage, I think as there was no footage of his crash shown the commentators thought the medical team were for Sutil. Decent race though and Rosberg got his ass handed to himj2 lot wrote:A shame that there was an incident and such a serious injury but I'm with Graeme, double waved yellows should have been sufficient to cover the incident.
