Interesting reading. I always thought Damon Hill was a hugely talented driver at his best and under rated by a lot of people. On the other hand Vettel is right up there whereas Alonso is nowhere to be seen in the top 10. I doubt anyone seriously thinks Vettel is a better driver than Alonso.

Lies and statistics... Can say what you want them to say. That report completely ignores the fact that the greatest driver in the world can't make a lot of difference to a mediocre F1 car - and Alonso, for whatever reasons, has spent most of his career in far from the best car.

It's daft to look a driver performance in a vaccum, purely on results, without considering the car - which is a far greater percentage of the performance than the driver.

Yeah, you're right there. You could probably put just about any driver on the grid in the current Mercedes and they would be on the podium. Even Maldonado if he managed not to crash

That might be pushing the theory a bit too far....

Up to a point it's right that any driver in the right car will perform well but there are exceptions - Alonso is a master at getting more out of a car than their is in there whereas I think Vettel needs everything stacked in his favour to do well, take away elements of that and he is nowhere.

Agree. Shame Alonso has not had the same car advantage as others. I guess there are plenty in the same situation. This season will be denting Vettel's win ration.

Good to see 4 Brits (2 Scots) in the top ten.
