Having problems with the above.
Whether on the internet, or the bigger issue when Mrs B is playing Candy Crush or Pet Rescue Saga

the screen just goes blank for a second or two, then goes to the home screen.
It's about 1.5yrs old, and has AVG Free installed.
Any suggestions, in case it's something obvious?
Cheers

Effectively a crash? OS fully up to date? Anything obviously change around time failures began?

It still works, but intermittently.
Dunno how to update the OS - will look in settings....
It's actually mine but I hardly use it, typical, so don't know if there was anything noticably changing during this starting...

Yep, into settings, there will be an icon for system...on my Toshiba Android it's something like Service Station. Check this out:

You are meant to replace every year or so, it's just reminding you that it's time ...
If the screen only goes blank for two seconds then dumps you back on the home screen, that's too quick for Android itself to reboot, so more likely it's the user space application that's crashing. Given it happens in more than one application I would suspect an issue with the graphics subsystem.
Cheers,
Robin

Hmmmmm, all up to date apparently, it was set to auto-update anyways - thanks Campbell

So in layman's terms, does that mean it's f*cked?
Or is there something I can do to help, maybe delete some crappy apps?

It could be a heat management issues; the newer games are all using a lot more graphics than before so maybe it's just reached the limit of what it can do.
Or it could just be shagged.
There is unlikely to be anything you can do, except maybe factory reset it and then start over ...
Cheers,
Robin

Factory reset it, eBay it, and get something fresher

Glad to be of assistance.
My promotion to head of IT department at DS Accountancy was clearly well deserved.
