Pressure Washers

Post by douglasgdmw » Sat Aug 30, 2014 7:45 am

Looking for a new pressure washer as my current one gave up the ghost.

Read a couple of reviews on various which etc comparisons but most talk about using them for patios rather than washing cars.

Any recommendations for the SE polishers (or ones to avoid) would be appreciated.

Probably looking for up to £150 ish in price.

I do know the new house hasn't the best mains water pressure if that helps?

The pressure is good, not too expensive and a strong brand that you cant go wrong with : remember and buy yourself a snow foam vance though ;-)

I have the same one, three lances and the pressure is variable, so works fine on the car, patio, windows, and the wife when she is feeling dirty.

I bought the circular patio brush as well which does an even better job.

I've got a Karcher too (I think it's the model below the one above). Does a great job.
Avoid Halfords own brand at all costs. I picked up one for about £40 a couple of years ago. It lasted about a year if I was lucky.

Another thumbs up for Karscher.

Try and get one with a water cooled motor (aa opposed to air cooled). That's what a Karscher engineer advised me. (I know it may be difficult for a Porsche fan to do)

Tut,

Obviously read about hoover substitutes but a circular patio brush must chafe a bit?

Completely agree as already have one for the car already and would not wash a car without one now.

Don't go for a Karcher.

Quality is not what it used to be on their domestic models. Main problem being that they have plastic pumps which fail far more often than they should.

Nilfisk is where you want to spend your money for occasional car washing duties. Much better build quality and with aluminium pumps.

I'd say mine gets used an average of once a week- my Karcher which cost about £150 lasted about two years- my £60 Nilfisk is still going strong after four.

Have a search on detailing world if you want further testimonials for Nilfisk or against Karcher.

This is where my money would go;

I am actually using Luke's new Karcher, mine packed in after a few years, but like the look of that Nilfisk especially with the ali pump and all the attachments I need included. It also looks as if it has a wind in hose and electric cable which is a failure of that model Karcher. And of course it costs a lot less, worthwhile if it is as good or better quality.

Going to order one now.

Yup, I had a Karcher and the plastic pump was destroyed by frost. Have a Nilfisk now and it seems like a quality item. The plastic hose it came with was a bit of a pig to coil up though so I have replaced it with a much more flexible rubber one.

I've done exactly the same.
The original hose split so replaced it with a much longer (10m) flexible rubber one which is great.

This happened to me also with my last karcher , but to be fair i used to keep water in the unit and store in infront of the garage door - so own fault really :-(
