Struggling to believe this. Why on earth could a nine year old possibly need lessons for using a machine gun? Americans eh? :shock:

Was just trying to find a suitable heading Dom, but yours will do fine.

You could not believe it if you did not see it in print, but at least he will not be instructing any other 9 year olds to use an Uzi.

One time I was in that states the guys were getting all excited because the weekend was the start of squirrel hunting season. Big family thing apparently, and one guy showed me a picture of his 5 year old daughter with a cross bow that would have done Rambo proud.

IIRC not too long ago there was a story of a 9-ish yr old boy defending himself and his younger sister in their USA home with an automatic rifle (can't recall the details, and no time to google right now).

Many of my pro-gun lobby American friends were praising it as a shining example of the need to *not* ban such weapons.

…it's a different world!

If your shocked at a nine year old, what about this girl who is only four :shock: ;

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/kids ... uns-clip-1

I only seen the trailer for the programme and it actually showed a little girl firing the rifle and it nearly took her shoulder off.

Found it here;

I guess this is a stark reminder of how young a country the USA really is. To an extent, it was built by guns, and seems to have foundations laid by them.

As long as guns are so easily available in the US, people will be able to stand up and argue protection, and teaching kids for safety reasons all day long.
These are normal people, like you and I, I don't doubt that there will be many 'ScottishElises' equivelents (AmericanGuns) all over the web were people have similar conversations to us lot, on all other kinds of subjects.
I guess it's one of the great things about living where we do!

Of course, much like in the UK where no government will hike taxes, or dramatically curb spending to deal with national debt, in the US, no president, who is legally restricted to a maximum of 8 years in the big house, will ban guns - all for fear of them / their party never being elected again.

If I lived in the USA then I would have a gun, a 9mm Browning pistol would do me nicely as I used one for a large part of my life, but my children certainly would not.

me too Tut. while theres no doubt americas gun culture is out of control, for normal well balanced individuals shooting at targets, i dont have a problem with them. i know nothing about guns and have never fired an uzzi so its easy to say there's no way id let a 9yo do that. however its all relative. how many kids are doing this in controlled environments every day in the US? ive no idea

I don't have a problem with that either, in fact I want to be able to do that in a safe environment (is this possible in scotland?). I think its a skill and a enjoyable past time for adults of a sound mind in a controlled place with regulation. Kids should not be allowed near guns in any form be it rifles , auto , pistol or air weapons. USA is out of control. BBC videos weeks ago of someone is Texas in Star Bucks with an AR15 iirc simply because its a constitutional right, that is simply crazy.

I also watched the Kids with Guns doco.
One guy bought his daughter who was four or five a .45 rifle for her birthday. He was really disappointed that she didn't like it after her first shot of it nearly blew her through the air.
In the US they actually sell brightly coloured guns specifically for kids, pink for girls and blue for boys.
I'm so glad I live here and not there.

reminds me of the time i bought my 5yo son a wee 50cc husky motocross bike! A gun would have been safer! :mrgreen:
