1955 Belgian GP

Post by neil » Mon Aug 11, 2014 10:22 pm

Excellent film of the 1955 Belgian GP. It's amazing to see how much Spa has and hasn't changed. 120 mph laps, air at Radillon and a nice grandstand to hit going up Eau Rouge

Watched that on TV at the time Neil.

My heros Fangio and Moss at the front. I still think that Fangio was the greatest of all time.

Great film! Thanks for posting - ideal lunch time viewing.

There were quite a few things that surprised me, one of which; - the race cars getting worked on outside the hotel, then driven down the public roads to the race.

The pits weren't half close to the track, half a step back and a couple of mechanics would have been wiped out

Great find, and an incredibly well preserved bit of film - 59 years old, eh.

I find the history of old circuits like Spa and Nurburgring absolutely fascinating. Next time I'm at Spa I'm going to explore as much of the old (now defunct) circuit roads as I can...I think a few are still in the public road network?

As for nice touches...scything the verges and a few haybales was all the track prep required. Bit like Knockhill in the 90s eh ;-)
