Commonwealth chat

Post by Lazydonkey » Mon Jul 28, 2014 3:12 pm

Got to admit i was a complete cynic.....but the games have been brilliant for Glasgow so far.

Woody and i went to see the cycling at the velodrome on saturday, then went to the "live" bit of Glasgow Green - both were fantastic with a great atmosphere and just everyone being really really happy.

I've lived in glasgow 21 years and i've never seen the place as buzzing as it is. Just fab :thumbsup

What else has anyone been to see? I see there are still some tickets available on some days if you fancy some random weightlifting / lawn bowl action
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

....did i ever tell you about the Evora and VX220 i used to own?

Apart from the use of the word fab and living in Glasgow for 21 years.

We headed back into town on Sunday because Saturday had been so good; Jo was pretty reluctant but really enjoyed it too. Cycling back from the green to the west end was interesting; there was an almost solid body of people walking from the SECC/Squinty bridge area to the green.

I was getting fairly hacked off with road closures etc before it started, but now it's here, I'm loving the atmosphere about the place. As I sit in my office just now, and I hear a jazz band playing in the square outside - real carnival feel.

I was a bit of cynic too, but must say never had so much fun at work before. Been working in and around 'BBC at the Quay' and the atmosphere has been great. A good lineup with some good acts too- looking forward to Wet Wet Wet tonight.

But this got me on the opening night - viewed from the top of the BBC building, it was quite something . . .

Never realised there was something on down there. We were at the Belle & Sebastian Bandstand gig watching the RA on the big screen awaiting their arrival overhead.... which never materialised. Realise why now.

The restored Kelvingrove Bandstand is excellent as well. :thumbsup

I spent a huge amount of time working on the 'non sporting' side of the Games and truly hadn't appreciated the legacy work and business involvement that goes with it. Glasgow has really invested in the city and the long term benefits are there too. Sadly after my motorbike incident I haven't seen anything after day 1 but there was a great atmosphere around the city on Wednesday. :thumbsup

Badminton today which was ace, and then a walk though a sunny Gorbals to the centre. Folk everywhere and they are all smiling!
